This is precisely the Zsasz I wanted, and also the one I never thought I’d get. Breyfogle for life, man. It’s perfect. I’m buying two.

Yeah, there's a lot of hate for this figure on the instagram post, but man, it's the version I've wanted since 1992. Love it so much. There's already a perfectly good DCD Arkham Zsasz out there, but never one that stepped right out of Shadow of the Bat and Knightfall. Absolutely thrilled with this figure, especially with the weird Breyfogle eye effect. Can't wait!

EXACTLY!!!

Zsasz is a McFarlane Toy Store exclusive. It won't surprise me that it sells out. It does look like a Cody Rhodes figure (I read that elsewhere and didn't think of it on my own).

And Cody figures look like Homelander, so we've got a nice chain going here!

Seriously, I can't un-see the Cody thing now.

Anyhoo, I missed PreorderMania, but I'm in for Boomerang when I can get one. Hopefully Sportsmaster if I can find one for a reasonable price. And maybe Starfire once all those Not The Chase I Wasted My Money hit the secondary market.

To be totally fair, those aspects of the design are faithfull to what they were going for

I gathered it was likely based on some very old panel likely from a first appearance rather than what he evolved into as we understand him today, but this is arguably one of the most phoned in looking figures I think Todd has done.  I hope he's not taking a page out of Hasbro's book where they have figures they really try with and others it seems like they should have waited on if they didn't have the budget.  I'm happy that those who really wanted this version get him, but I don't know how many people that actually will be as this seems like one that's destined for steep clearance. If anyone would like to explain what the point with his eyes was back then or why the artist drew him what what appear to be cats-eye glasses on, feel free to fill me in on that though.

Breyfogle was very expressionistic with his art. He often drew characters with exaggerated proportions or outfits (his Batman capes are legendary). He did this to emphasize how things looked "to the characters in the book", if that makes sense. The people of Gotham think of Batman as this otherworldly figure, this mythic beast haunting the night, so he's drawn with this huge flowy cape and often with spikes on his shoulders and exaggerated cowl ears. He isn't literally walking around with a 30ft cape dragging behind him, but he's drawn that way because that's how the characters in the book see him.

With Zsasz, who Breyfogle co-created I believe, his eyes are often a talked-about feature in those early stories. His victims, mostly women, would remark on the animal nature of his eyes, how sinister they were. Zsasz himself even talked a lot about them, remarking how women were "zombies" and that he could see it in their eyes. Eyes, and expressionistic eyes, were a large part of the Zsasz character in the beginning. He's drawn to resemble how his victims would see him in the moments before their death...with strange, sinister, animal-like eyes.

I don't know if that makes a good action figure, but that's the reason for it. Hope that helps!

You've waited since 1992 for a figure that looks like it was totally phoned it by the designer? Instead of dedicated sculpt you're thrilled with a stock body with some black squiggles?

I don't mind the character design itself because I understand where it comes from, I mind the fact that the final product looks like something my kid could make with sharpie and some sculpting clay if I had that buck laying around in flesh colors.

I'd be all over a Breyfogle Zsasz on a newly fully sculpted body coming with 2 heads (one realistic, one with black eyes), but this is just lazy.

Agree 100%. I LOVE Breyfogle art, and I'd be all over a Zsasz figure that actually looked like his rendition...but this ain't it. Awful looking figure.

Heh. Fascinating how polarizing this figure is. Also kinda fascinating how some folks seem Big Mad that other folks actually like it.

Anyway: can’t wait.

Zsasz is up for preorder. He’s got newly-sculpted “pant leg” shins and also bare feet, exactly as he should.

I don't think he looks too bad. I might have made more tally marks, make them thinner and cluster them a bit more densely. An actually shirtless torso sculpt would have been amazing, as well. That said, those are somewhat minor gripes.

The headsculpt is very good but the rest of him looks cheaply made. The lack of a proper shirtless mold is doing him no favors as are the thickly drawn scars.

I would have grabbed him for $23 or combined shipping in another order but $31 shipped for one figure even with MTS10, just not worth it for me given how cheap it looks. Maybe I’ll change my mind later.

Ordered Zsasz even though I really have no interest in him, but I don't know, just felt right.  29 odd posted to the UK which is what I'd be paying if I got him from AE so why not.

Are those supposed to be denim jeans on Zsasz? If so, the figure looks bad. As if it were unfinished.

Considering all the Knightfall figures we've been getting including Zsasz I wonder if we might get Bird, Trogg and Zombie as McFarlane Store exclusives to go with Bane

Wasn't super excited for this figure when I first saw it, but all the Breyfogle love won me over and I ordered one. Plus I just can't pass up a new Bat-villain that I don't have.

It’s supposed to be the pants of an Arkham inmate’s uniform. Or at least that’s what he was wearing in The Last Arkham.
