I'd have rather it been an Arkham version, that looks like Charlie Brown did time in the slammer and marked his time with permanent marker. At least make the scars look red or a darker peach if you're not going to bother sculpting it in. It couldn't be more expensive than Clayface or Man Bat to sculpt those minor details.  And I don't even know what's going on with his glasses that look like he got to pick them from the prize box at the dentist's office.  Clearly he was a good boy during his appointment with the Asylum dentist.

Saving money on that one.

To be totally fair, those aspects of the design are faithfull to what they were going for

This is precisely the Zsasz I wanted, and also the one I never thought I’d get. Breyfogle for life, man. It’s perfect. I’m buying two.

Problem is that old four-color comics were limited to rendering things like scars as black lines because it was really the only way they could do it then. They weren't supposed to be interpreted like they were drawn on with a sharpie. In the same way that the black outlines around everything in comics aren't meant to be taken literally.

For the action figure they should have at least tried to make them look like actual scars on skin instead of like they were drawn on. If they didn't want to sculpt them all, they could have colored them in a darker flesh tone instead of straight up 100% black.

Happy for those who are happy with that Zsasz, but it's not for me, especially given what is sure to be a Gold Label price hike. I like my Zsasz a bit more on the creepy side. Was hoping at least for some raised scars, too. But hey, we're getting a relatively lower tier Bat-villain, so that's cool. Credit where credit's due, I guess.

I just remember buying and reading that first Shadow of the Bat arc, “The Last Arkham”, off the rack in comic shops as it was released, and it was such a good story and Breyfogle’s art was such a huge part of it and he was the first ever to draw Jeremiah Arkham, Amygdala and Zsasz. It’s so rare to get a specific character (who isn’t a giant a-lister) in the specific style of the original artist in action figure form. I just think it’s super-cool.

I’d be happy with Zsasz if I could have gotten him today with the other figures. But why make things easier on your customers and save them a few dollars in shipping?

Zsasz now becomes yet another “pay $40 or skip it” figure that I’ll probably skip. I had been on the fence about Penguin but stuck to my guns and only ordered Starfire on Amazon. If Zsasz had been  cost effective to attain I might have done something outlandish like order Penguin as well and start displaying classic Batman villians.

I gathered it was likely based on some very old panel likely from a first appearance rather than what he evolved into as we understand him today, but this is arguably one of the most phoned in looking figures I think Todd has done.  I hope he's not taking a page out of Hasbro's book where they have figures they really try with and others it seems like they should have waited on if they didn't have the budget.  I'm happy that those who really wanted this version get him, but I don't know how many people that actually will be as this seems like one that's destined for steep clearance.  If anyone would like to explain what the point with his eyes was back then or why the artist drew him what what appear to be cats-eye glasses on, feel free to fill me in on that though.

Hmm, maybe that Boomerang head can fit on Shipwreck from GI Joe 😉

Yeah, there's a lot of hate for this figure on the instagram post, but man, it's the version I've wanted since 1992. Love it so much. There's already a perfectly good DCD Arkham Zsasz out there, but never one that stepped right out of Shadow of the Bat and Knightfall. Absolutely thrilled with this figure, especially with the weird Breyfogle eye effect. Can't wait!

Zsasz is a McFarlane Toy Store exclusive. It won't surprise me that it sells out. It does look like a Cody Rhodes figure (I read that elsewhere and didn't think of it on my own).

The platinum Penguin looks classic or like the Super Powers version. I figured Blackfire would be the platinum version of Starfire. White Lantern Boomerang is an interesting choice.

There is an amount of negativity on these boards regarding the McFarlane figures, but they have been selling out. I know the people on this board are not the only ones buying McFarlane figures, but it is interesting when we see the laziness in some figures and they sell out on every website. However, people may be buying them up for the chase figures and return the rest or just to sell for a marked up price on ebay or elsewhere.

I have noticed how the selling of the figures has changed. They were plentiful in the stores but there was always a major sale or clearance every few months. I used to wait since most of the figures would be half off. I don't see that many in Target or Walmart, including the Super Powers & Classic Batman TV. Now it seems like the only choice is to buy them online. I don't like to preorder items but they usually sell out during the preorder release.

If I want them, I will order them. If I miss them, oh well life goes on. I'm not one of those people who swears off the entire line and sells off everything if one figure pisses me off. I am ok with this line, I was never a die hard lover and I have always cherry picked. It has evolved over time. I just don't get how there is only one set of figures but there are 4 different line - DC Multiverse, Collectors Edition, Page Punchers & the new Digital Collection. The figures have interchanged between lines and the prices change depending on the line.

Yeah, not a character I care about, but if it was?  This version all the way.  I am also a Breyfogle fanboy.

You've waited since 1992 for a figure that looks like it was totally phoned it by the designer? Instead of dedicated sculpt you're thrilled with a stock body with some black squiggles?

I don't mind the character design itself because I understand where it comes from, I mind the fact that the final product looks like something my kid could make with sharpie and some sculpting clay if I had that buck laying around in flesh colors.

I'd be all over a Breyfogle Zsasz on a newly fully sculpted body coming with 2 heads (one realistic, one with black eyes), but this is just lazy.
