Scalping of Chases/Platinums is what it is and I don’t like it but man……I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt when finding Chases/Platinums in the wild. It doesn’t happen often as I don’t hunt every single day but when I found the Supergirl Rebirth Platinum…I got an immediate rush and was so excited. Same feelings when I got the Hong Kong Batman Platinum. Now this is just me and I can see the other side of those who don’t like it.

Do most collectors really have time to hunt, though? To be a serious collector, you have to have a lot disposable income, which likely means you have a well-paying job, which also likely means you have a spouse and/or children. In my case, unless I'm already at Target doing family shopping, I literally have no opportunity to "hunt" action figures.

Also, geography really matters with finding figures in the wild. I live in NYC, and it's effectively impossible to find any chase or even just in-demand figures. The population density of urban areas means someone will basically always beat you to it.

I'm from Michigan, and when I'm home, I will check on Targets (on the aforementioned family shopping trips) and have had just a moderate amount of more luck finding chase figures. In particular, I saw two Batman: The Animated Series Scarecrow chases at one Target and then a Jim Gordon DC Multiverse at another. Those seem to be the least popular and/or more produced chases, though, based on the eBay prices for them.

Page Punchers Superman looks wild. Like that headsculpt way more than gooftard classic.

In for this Brainiac

I wished Superman’s boots were Red, but that’s an easy fix

In a vacuum I think I would appreciate the page punchers more. It reminds me of early McFarlane Multiverse. Good value for the price of the toy.

Too bad I have to stare at these meticulously sculpted and paint washed Supermen next to the rest of the line.

Brainiac looks a lot less classic in these photos. And like he’s going to topple over on those little feet.

Really don't like the cheap fabric used for these cloth capes. The see-through dot patterns are terrible. Here's Todd showing them off.

OMG.... that E-2 Superman highlights one of the factors I find most annoying about McFarlane Toys choices.    Look at the card that is included in the package -  nice smooth looking costume design.   Then look at the figure with just endless texturing and seams and rivets.    I get that it looks like it's using the exact same body as that Superman figure with different hands and some of those details are more appropriate for that Superman costume -  but it's not like Todd doesn't have access to smoother body sculpts -  he didn't have to use the exact same textured body for both of those figures...  it's a weird choice that takes away from what would likely have been my favorite figure in the wave.

Heheh this Val-Zod is how it is so that:

1) Todd can get his extra-details jollies

and

2) So that we will eventually spend $30 to get a “Collector’s Series” Val on another body that is better but not quite perfext. Then after that . . . you know how this goes.

That said: I love this set, and I am giggling at the Kal Superman being somewhere between nu52 and v1 Rebirth but not actually either. Brainiac, to me, is a nightmare-fuel masterpiece. Ordered them all, and multiples of Brainiac. Are those limbs interchangeable? I’m gonna enjoy finding out.

I saw a King Kordax in the clearance section at Target today. $10. I got excited for a second thinking I could get the black trident for Manta on the cheap, until I realized it was in the clearance section because some jackass had stolen the trident already.

Oh well, wasn't meant to be. He'll probably be on clearance at some point everywhere, anyway.

I have to admit that Brainiac is pretty cool and will be the only figure from this wave that I pre-order.     I might consider zombie Zod if it hits a decent sale price.    The only thing I'd want from that Earth2 release at this point is the head, so I'll just wait for the inevitable re-do you suggest with a better body.

I ordered 2 of Superman (to display one with the armor and one without) and also E-2 Superman and a Brainiac from BBTS before they sold out. I passed on the Zod.

They are all still up for pre-order at Amazon, since they seem to be all pre-sold out at BBTS

And... I owe Todd an apology.   In getting a close up look at the comic art for Val Zod he does appear to have some of the texturing and rivets on his costume shown in the sculpt.   So,  while I HATE it -  it does at least seem to match the source material and so I was wrong in my earlier criticism.

Not a fan of the silly Supermen but again, I'm glad they've already found their fans. Zodd still looks more like a version of Metallo than anything else to me, or maybe like he's stepped out of Darksiders. Brainiac, though, is the tits, good stuff. Not the biggest fan of the mismatched arms but it looks much better than expected after watching the 360 video of him. I wonder how tall/small/lanky he'll be next to other figures.

@new-batman that movie Black Manta is a pretty great standard version of the character. Worth it IMO.
