It’s a general problem that’s plaguing a lot of hobbies right now. See the people acting like idiots at Target trying to flip Pokémon cards.
It’s just especially unnecessary here since there’s nothing stopping them from doing chase variants as standard separate releases or in box sets or something.
Toyshiz has revealed 2 platinum chases for the new Batman wave:
Blue Az-Bats
Blue First Apperance Batman (Detective Comics 28 variant)
Platinum Catwoman currently in stock at CMDStore. $39.99 plus shipping.
sigh. Yeah, I went for it.
@aceofknaves man...it's like, I want it, but I just don't feel like it's a $40 figure. Thanks for the tip though. I'm going to try to talk myself into—or out of—buying her.
Not to play up to the stereotypes of our chosen hobby but it’s a pretty sad nerd that considers driving to a bunch of stores or pulling out the credit card and buying a dozen duplicates of a mass market item to constitute “competition”. You know instead of something that takes genuine skill or expertise or some such.
Competition isn't a term that always implies skill; that mischaracterization sounds like part of what they're reacting to (it's not inherently noble or a proving ground, that's a fun myth of capitalism but it's basically never true). Competition can just be too many people wanting or needing a thing that exists in too small a quantity.

Yes, precisely this. Especially spot-on about the capitalist mythology.
There's competition in the sense of a game with set rules and then there's genetic competition for natural resources. Stalking the toy aisle of Target doesn't rate anyone high in either.
+1 in support of the majority opinion on chase variants. I just entered an EQL for platinum Wonder Woman so I could try to trade her for a Platinum Captain Carrot, or sell her to cover the cost of buying one. Tried to get a figure I have absolutely no interest in because the value has been inflated to a point where it made sense to try to get that and swap it for another artificially inflated figure.
It’s just getting to be silly. I don’t think anyone enjoys the uncertainty of the variants. Some of us skip an order we would have made, others buy extra just to get the version we want. People with no self control going to 8 Targets for a bunch of chase variants then flipping them on eBay. They’re barely even actual chase figures at this point considering masked/unmasked Bale is 50/50.

I actually have been buying more figures directly from the McFarlane Store because it supposedly increases your chances of winning those EQL lotteries. For the collectors edition wave 2, which I bought from MTS, I won platinums for all three via EQL. For the latest wave, which I also bought from MTS, I won it for Captain Carrot but lost for Wonder Woman. And I've lost for some other ones I bought from the store, so apparently that's not a full-proof plan. I'm at 50-50 for winning.

Well, think of it like traffic then. Commuting to and from work every day isn’t competition, but the fewer cars that are on the road, the more pleasant of an experience it is, at least for me.
Left to my own devices, I would work from home full time like I did for two full years during the pandemic, and I wouldn’t commute at all.
Other people might enjoy the commute and/or being in an office environment. To each their own.

On the flip side, I also was purchasing a lot from the McF store but I haven't won a EQL yet lol My purchasing has slowed over the last 6 months, so I wouldn't expect to win now, but the first few months they did the EQL thing I never won squat. Maybe I just never ordered enough.
youre way ahead of many.... ive won about 25% of my entriesI'm at 50-50 for winning.
Are there any pictures out there of the blue-and-grey Knightfall Batman next to any or all of the Nightwing figures?
@magnusprimal check dhunter's review on YouTube. He does tons of comparison shots.
Scalping of Chases/Platinums is what it is and I don’t like it but man……I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt when finding Chases/Platinums in the wild. It doesn’t happen often as I don’t hunt every single day but when I found the Supergirl Rebirth Platinum…I got an immediate rush and was so excited. Same feelings when I got the Hong Kong Batman Platinum. Now this is just me and I can see the other side of those who don’t like it.
