Actually yeah. I loved The Horsemen but soured on that because of reuse being overdone. I still thought they nailed a cool superhero physique. McFarlane was cooler to me since they went all in on new sculpts and artist specific stuff. However the line has trended down hard and is just bad now in my opinion. It seems to be a growing sentiment. I noticed a while ago that 2021 was a high point more or less and just haven't liked my purchases as much. They did kill it on The Flash and Page Punchers. I really like the few Spawn releases they make, but even then the diapers are bad, figures over textured, proportions questionable and we're really not getting new sculpts anymore.
Some of my favorite figures are from McFarlane, but my buying has come to halt. Happier putting it towards other things. Loose Collector being his own company is getting me back into 6 inch scale too. Maybe Todd returns to form, but this feels like a dark time for the line. Kilowog is cool, but $70?? And we have to buy a repack too. I'm fine with this stuff when there are new sculpts to make it worth, but there aren't.
I heard a rumor there's a lot of listings that might be canned and wondering if the Page Punchers Superman or JLA waves are even gonna happen. My hopes aren't high.
As someone who never managed to get the Gold Label Kyle Rayner I am totally in for this 2 pack - especially with the darker green
This probably isn't going to be a popular take, but recently I'm finding that the more figures that I buy from this line the less I'm liking it and the more I'm appreciating the Mattel DCUC figures that I have. There have some been great figures in this McFarlane line, no doubt -- but I find myself really souring on some of proportions on a lot these figures with the really long legs, the diaper, super inconsistent scaling.... Mattel seemed to use the same basic buck for just about everybody but at least they look good together on a shelf. I'm also biased because I know that I'd like this line a lot better if it was 6" scale rather than 7" scale. When I'm actively making the decision to store the McFarlane figures in a bin and keeping the Mattel figures displayed it really makes me question why I keep buying so many McFarlane figures.... especially as the prices increase. So far I've bought at least one version of every character they've made just like I did for Mattel and DC Direct (and Hasbro and Toy Biz for Marvel Legends), but I'm starting to think it might be time to abandon that if I'm really not enjoying them that much. I think that I honestly just expected that there would have been more ongoing improvements since the launch of the line. I'm finding that most of my favorite figures that McFarlane has done were done earlier in the line rather than recently (Captain Carrot is an exception, as is Lobo's Space Hog). Is anyone else feeling the same way, or is this just me?
When you start realizing that the purchases you’re making with your hard earned money aren’t making you happy, it’s time to stop. I’ve been there, and it sucks. But you feel so much better afterwards.
No, it’s not just you, but it’s not just McFarlane either. With DCUC, each wave had to strike a balance between characters that required more tooling and deco and characters that required less. However, the characters that required less tooling and deco were just as faithful to the source material as the characters that required more.
There seems to be a lot more inconsistency now in general. Some figures in the DC Universe and Marvel Legends lines are great, some are terrible, and many are a combination of both.
McFarlane has made it much easier for me with DC Multiverse than Hasbro has with Marvel Legends, though. With McFarlane, completing teams and/or universe building is pretty much a lost cause. At the end of the day, the line is a random collection of DC Characters from various eras, timelines, and story arcs, so I just buy the ones I really like.
I'm not seeing the value at $70 even if Kyle wasn't a repeat.
I want to love and collect this line, I swear I do. But what is going on with the weird texture and detailing on Kilowog! That’s a 10/10 head sculpt on a body I’ve never seen before in a comic.
See....I'm not sure how much this matters to me anymore. Overall, do I think this looks cool? If the answer is yes, I'm not very likely to fret over it. How many costume changes does the average superhero see in the comics alone? Then take into account all of the multiverse looks, all the video game, movie, TV, and animation looks. Let's say between ALL of those genres, our average hero has 15 different looks all of which are a slight variation on the same them. Then Todd comes along and gives us slight variation number 16. Well so what? "Todd made it up?" The produces of the TV show made up their own look too. The video game designers made up their own look. They took what came before, tweaked it a little bit (and in most cases I mean a VERY little bit) and said "here's ours". That's how I look at it these days. I think it used to be a bigger deal to me. Now, especially with DC Multiverse which I am very far from being "all in" on, it just doesn't matter as much.
While this is a fair approach, I guess I think it’s weird to package a slight variant of Kilowog with a perfectly comic accurate Kyle Rayner. The line has separated their classic figures from the McFarlanized variants for the most part, and the 2 pack makes it tough to cherry pick one style over the other.
Also understand I’m in the minority as it comes to this stuff. I still ordered and working on a trading my old Kyle Rayner, so, maybe I can find some boots/gloves I like better for Kilowog.
Maybe I’m becoming an old curmudgeon but I guess I have too many toys now. If it isn’t comic accurate or helping complete a team/display…I’m just not interested. Objectively this is going to be, at worst, the most articulated Kilowog we have received in toy form.
If, like me, you missed out on the Collector Edition Wonder Woman, and don't want to pay the ridiculous secondary market prices for her, she's up for pre-order for MSRP on the Books-A-Million website.
5.99 shipping brings her up to nearly 40, but I'm glad just to finally stop hunting for her at a reasonable price online, especially since my local Target closed down in December and my local Gamestops hate action figures, so I have no way of getting her in store.
Here's hoping they actually get her in soon so I can finally have a MCF Trinity.

Thanks for the heads up. I almost pulled the trigger but ended up passing. It's a preorder, it's nonrefundable, and it's basically $40 after taxes and shipping. I'm not letting FOMO get me on this one. I have a feeling it's coming back to Target at some point. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
I found the Platinum version of Steel at GameStop today. I’m not sure I want the figure, but I know that if I decide I do this is the one I want. So I bought it. Last week I found smiling Superman and Knightfall Nightwing at a different GameStop. If you’re looking for something, you may want to check them out.
I jumped on the Green Lantern 2 pack. I've wanted a good Kilowog figure for a long time, and the DCUC would be more expensive than this (and not as good).
I received the regular Steel today from Amazon... I think I'm gonna send it back. He's randomly covered in blue splotches & it looks awful. I can't tell if it's blue plastic showing through or if for some reason some paint got flung on him, but it looks terrible.
@fuzzybluedemon I guess that's what it looks like when you try to do a chrome character but don't have chrome budget.
mine has that too
slighyly less
everyone does from what I’m told and it’s intentional
it’s in the promo pictures too
mine is significantly less than yours
Say what you will about McFarlane but he got me a smiling Superman and for that I am grateful. Long time want, fulfilled.
