Do you tend to keep the Mafex boxes after opening? I've held on to mine so far but with the arrival of Ivy (and Huntress/Nightwing right before that) I've hit the "okay, this is getting excessive" stage. Any particular collector reason to hold onto them forever? (I recycle almost all packaging, but given the price on these I've held onto the boxes just in case. Debating if it's time to set them free or not.)

I cut up the box so that I have the name of the figure (along with any authentication codes included on the box) stored away with the figure. I then recycle the box and insert.
Similarly, I cut out the authentication codes and recycle the rest.
Of all the high-end toys, I find that resale buyers care the least about the original packaging with MAFEX figures. You can seriously hurt the resale value of a Mezco figure without its packaging, but not MAFEX.
Thanks @sephiroth61787 and @TheSameIdiot - I don't *think* I'll resell them (I don't rehome figures very often) but didn't want to destroy any resale value. I say this as someone who only like, three months ago finally got rid of ALL my Mythic Legions packaging because I got overwhelmed). I don't collect many high-end figures (the Hush figures, a the few Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell stuff that's been released) so I had no barometer for packaging value. Easy enough to snip off the authentication code, put those in storage with the swappable parts and stuff, and free up a few cubic feet of space in my office.
Ah, I hadn't watched Cowboy Bebop when those figures came out. They're a bit pricier than I'd like now.
Regarding resale, I get it. I try to buy everything to keep it long-term, but sometimes a better version comes along. It happened quickly with the MAFEX Jean. The second they announced Phoenix, I knew the ugly Jim Lee look wasn't long for my shelf.
Personally I always keep the boxes for my high end figures (Mafex, Figuarts, Mezco) as I like storing the figures and the accessories in the original packaging when not on display - plus if I ever did plan on selling them I'm fairly sure they would be worth more with the packaging
@tsi Not gonna lie, Spike is one of my favorite figures in my whole collection but I also feel a seething anger that they never got around to doing the rest of the crew. I didn't need the whole line, but they did preview Faye so I had hope they'd give us her, Jet, and Ed if nothing else. (I was able to get Vicious super cheaply somehow, IIRC I got lucky with him on an Amazon discount one day.) If you ever see Spike around retail though, 10/10 would recommend picking him up, he's amazing.
I think I feel safe scrapping the boxes for the Hush figures because they are, every single one, my favorite version of the DC character they represent in my whole collection. I loved the Icons line for as long as it lasted (and I think those were great for the price) but Mafex Hush Bats and Catwoman et al just take my breath away. And it really feels like DC is determined to not give us a line that hits those core characters really well any time soon. I like this line so much I caved and bought both blue and black Bats, way too much money for the same figure repainted but they're just so GOOD, y'know?
I'd for sure go back and get Spike if they had at least made Faye. Though, after you mentioned SHF Spike, I checked eBay. He's not as expensive as I feared. Maybe I'll splurge one day.
Agreed on the MAFEX DC stuff. I'm confident that I won't be replacing the likes of Catwoman, Harley, Poison Ivy, or Nightwing anytime soon. I could be swayed on Bats and Superman depending on the costume.

For "higher end" figures like Mafex, Mezco, etc, I keep the boxes just in case I want to sell the figure down the line. You tend to get more money if the figure includes everything. I keep the boxes in storage along with my comic book collection and other toylines that I need to sell but don't have the heart to.😐

All figures are worth more with packaging. But as TSI pointed out how much value do you actually lose by selling figures without it, and is the space the box takes up worth that amount to you? That formula is different for all of us, but I am curious about how much added value you get on average with the box.
I've been assuming you get an extra $10 or more with the box, but now that TSI says it's not much I'll start looking to see. Back when I first started collecting Legends in 2018 it seemed that the box gave you an extra $2 to $3 over used figures without it, and that wasn't enough for me to justify filling a closet with empty boxes. But now I have several stacks of Mafex boxes in my closet, so it's time to do the math to see if they're worth the space.
@enigmaticclarity That's where I'm at. When I just had three Mafex keeping the boxes was a no-brainer. Now that I'm up to nine or ten, they're taking up enough space to be a hassle. I did the same thing with Mythic Legions but saw the out of print ones were selling for obscene prices out of the box so I got rid of all but the rarest figures I own for space. Legends, if I kept the boxes I'd need a second home so I gave up on those a long while back. It's the collective space that's getting to me.
I've been meaning to do a box purge for some NECA stuff too, but, specifically, I have no idea how to safely store the Gargoyles wings yet. At least Mafex are, both in and out of the box, extremely reasonable with their space requirements.

$10 is about right. To me, that isn't a lot, or at least it's not enough to justify storing a ton of cardboard.
I've seen a $40+ difference in Mezco figures with/without the box. I don't mind storing the Mezco boxes because I have a grand total of one of them.
If the roles were reversed and the MAFEX figures were worth far more with the box, I'd have a decision to make. Fortunately that isn't the case.
Looks like Book of Boba Fett and that variant DKR Joker are about to ship.
Knightfall Batman is now shipping out to retailers.
The cape looks much smaller.
