Funko Fabrikations is a new line by Funko that has a focus on “soft sculptures,” as they’re calling it. From what I’ve seen, they’re primarily highly stylized plush figures based on characters from a wide array of licenses, like Star Wars, DC, and Marvel. Here, we’re looking at their take on Marvel’s Rocket Raccoon, based on his appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
He’s a fun and adorable little figure, though I feel like I should be calling him a “stuffed animal,” but it seems as though Funko is dodging that designation here. Rocket has one point of articulation (his head swivels), so I guess that does technically make him an “action figure,” right? What’s interesting is his packaging stipulates that he is “not a toy” and is recommended for collectors ages 14 and up. Huh. It seems this is Funko’s attempt at introducing plush figures into the adult collectible market. Are they successful?
