NYCC 2014 Reactions – Mezco One:12 Collective

Prepare to be judged, collectors.

Mezco’s fiery rising-star line One:12 Collective revealed more details and its second figure — Judge Joe Dredd — at New York Comic Con this past week.

There’s been talk of some other companies like 3A taking on the iconic 2000AD character in 1/12 format, but Mezco made talk very cheap with this unveiling.

Dredd is at once in keeping with the comic-accurate aesthetic that Batman displayed so prominently, and it is also a good choice to show off how differently the cloth uniforms can be applied in this line. Batman’s uniform makes use of that classic spandex look, where Dredd’s is less formfitting and more pleather-y.  I like where that’s going — it’s a step even more in line with the 1/6-scale lines, and having the range to do a variety of styles and materials in cloth, and doing it well, of course, will quickly put Mezco in their league.

It’s now looking like the mysteries of the multiple Batmen is becoming more clear as well: The “Book 1” look for the Dark Knight will be available through Previews, a great boon for the ol’ comics shop, and the blue version of the “Book 3” look is possibly a Mezco site exclusive. And, in case you missed it, the black and grey version is currently available for preorder via the Mezco store and Fwoosh Sponsor Big Bad Toy Store, but be advised, you might want to work quickly on that front.  Word is, we’re already approaching the halfway mark.

January is the now-confirmed date for Batman, and that is really not far off at all.  I can’t believe SDCC was already three months ago, so we’ve got just three to go.  If Mezco’s looking for some good teasers to pass the time, I’d love to see an articulation breakdown of the base body these figures are using — we know how many, but I wanna see details!

Another interesting showing that isn’t exactly O12C is the resurgence of Mortal Kombat in their own 6-inch line. And while they are beautiful-looking in prototype form, I’m already feeling so spoiled that I’m hoping these guys can find their way into the Collective as well. Maybe run the new game looks in this format and the Klassic versions get some deluxe treatment? At this point, why not just take ALL my money, Mez? Why stop at a mere “most”?

Anyway, in spite of still being essentially an unblooded combatant, this line has moved to my primary collecting focus, and if this type of pace could keep, as in a figure shown every three months or so, they’re on to something huge here.
