I’m on a S.H. Figuarts roll of late, with a ton of Power Rangers, Dragonball Z, Naruto, and One Piece figures filling my headlines. I recently picked up my final S.H. Figuarts One Piece addition — Sanji. He is the last of the figures that Bandai released and I am super happy, and sad, to have him.
My happiness stems from the fact that this is an amazing figure, perfect in every aspect as a representation of the manga/anime character. He’s a beautifully crafted figure, and it is clear that Bandai was finally starting to get the hang of translating One Piece into plastic.
Sadly, the line ends with Luffy (review here), Nami (review here), and Sanji. The wildly popular Figuarts Zero (non-articulated PVC figures) seems to be the only way to figures of One Piece. It’s like a kick to the “gra-apes” not to have Zorro and at least Usopp, the original, and in my opinion, core characters to the series. I can only imagine the adventures they would have on my toy shelves.
As mentioned, the figure is beautifully sculpted, from the extra hands to the extra faces. The carving knives are extremely sharp-looking and look like they jumped right out of the anime. The figure comes with two torsos, one without articulation, which is very statuesque. It’s great for the vanilla posers out there who don’t care for articulation. The other chest consists of two parts: the bottom of the waistcoat and the upper torso with a socket, for those of us that want to pose the hell out of our figures. The parts are swappable, but be careful, the fit is tight and some part feel as though they might snap off.
The articulation is amazeballs. The figure can pose and pose and pose. He’s the most fun that I’ve had posing a figure in a while. Even his add-on flaming leg is articulated; it’s not just an add-on piece, but a full articulated flaming leg! Here’s the articulation breakdown:
Hinged toes
Swivel feet
Ball ankles
Double knees
Swivel thighs
Ball hips
Jointed crotch
Ball waist
Ball abs
Double ball shoulders
Bicep swivels
Double elbows
Swivel forearm
Jointed wrist
Swivel hands
Ball neck
Ball head
Bandai knocks this figure out of the park and it really is a shame they haven’t finished off the initial crew. I can only hope and pray that one day they will take the plunge and make the investment in finishing the team. Until then!
