Hasbro – Marvel Legends Kree Soldier

Hasbro Marvel Legends Wal-Mart 2 Packs Kree and Skrull Soldiers Kree Soldier featured

I’m loving the whole cosmic part of the Marvel Universe right now. There is some excellent story telling going on and a great use of the different species, races, and characters that make Cosmic Marvel such a fun place to explore. On top of Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova is a great read, and the new Silver Surfer has some potential. As a result, it’s time to review an older figure that was overlooked for good reason.

Kree are a race of alien beings that have this super complex history in the Marvel Universe. They are best known for their warring ways with the Skrulls, but they also tie into the Inhumans, Eternals, and everything else cosmic you can think of. They seem to be at constant war with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and occasionally the X-Men. Best known for the hero Captain Marvel, Ronan, and the Supreme Intelligence, this alien race makes for a great read. Lots of drama with these Kree.

The Kree Soldier was released a while ago as part of a series of 2-packs at Toys R Us, if memory servers. He was packaged with a Skrull soldier, one that we’d seen before in the Fantastic Four line — the Super Skrull. Our Super Skrull is a little different this time around in his coloring and paint schemes. Another review for another day.

Our Kree Soldier is another variation of the Hasbro bastardization of the Bullseye buck, featuring some new parts. The lower legs are new, and the forearms are new, as well as a new head, collar, and belt. He even comes with a gun. The lower legs and forearms are a welcome change over the previously used parts. The look and feel are much more uniform and less clunky. We lose the rocker ankles on the feet, but we gain much better-looking feet in the process. The hands are not articulated outside of the wrist swivel/hinge. The left hand is made for holding the gun.

The collar is great and channels that classic Kree uniform look. The belt is solid but a wee on the small side, and where the belt buckles there is a bit of gap. The belt includes a holster, located on the right side with the handle of the gun facing back; it’s designed for a right-handed draw. With the left hand shooting hand, and for the holster to be on the right side, the handle of the gun needed to be facing front. It’s an odd placement of the gun and holster and I’m probably the only collector that’s anal about this type of thing.

There are two heads! Two swappable heads! One is painted Kree blue and the other Kree human. Yeah, it’s cool Hasbro included the two differently colored heads. What would be cooler is if they made the heads bigger! They are tiny! It’s like they saw Beetlejuice too many times or something.

While I’m on the complaining bandwagon, I have to complain that the only color of the Kree Soldier is in the Kree Captain colors. It’s great for the collectors that want to do a pre-red-and-blue Captain Mar-Vell. It would have been great to get some other colors, privates or sergeants or something. Yeah, I know. Pabs, you’re nuts. No one bought the set anyway, so why make more of something no one wants?

Aside from that, this is a decent figure and part of a decent figure set. I have a hankering to put these parts on a Black Panther-based Hydra Goon and make some Kree Soldiers.
