NECA – Wasp Predator

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESOnce I bought my first NECA Predator figure, I was hooked. NECA’s making amazing Predator figures is nothing new, but it does seem with each new series; NECA makes them just that much better, whether it be the paint scheme, accessories, or pulling ideas from all corners of the Predator universe, NECA keeps surprising me. This figure happens to check all three of those boxes.

This Predator was first seen in a behind-the-scene photo of a fan-made film called Batman: Dead End.  If you haven’t watched this, please do yourself a favor and go watch it after reading this review. This happens to be the third “Dead End” Predator from NECA. Big Red was the first, which happens to be my very first NECA Predator figure. The second was the Albino Predator, who was an SDCC 2013 exclusive figure. Looking at this picture, you can see how different these guys look from each other, but, at the same time, they look amazing together.

The Wasp features the now “basic” Predator base figure, which features over 20 points of articulation. The head has a great range of motion, as does most of his articulation. Wasp is also rocking the normal Predator dreadlocks and his face is covered with a mask. He includes two weapons: a dual arm blade, which is attached to his arm permanently, and a spear-type weapon.

The paint job on this guy just blows me away. When I first got him I couldn’t stop looking at the details on his helmet. You can tell this guy has seen some action with all the scuffs and scrapes on his mask. His body has a very striking black and yellow paint job. His armor is a mix of gray and brown with a few paint accents in a metallic blue and a flat red.

His wrist-guard blade is a staple for all Predators and also can be extended for the death blow. It has always been one of my favorite things about the Predators.

His other accessory is a spear-type weapon that was also shown in that behind-the-scenes photo from Dead End. But this is no normal spear, this thing is used to hunt and kill Xenomorphs. How do I know this? Well, the head of a Xenomorph being stuck to the end of it was a dead giveaway. NECA did not take any shortcuts with the sculpt on the Xenomorph head. It looks like it could have been taken right off a Xenomorph action figure. The head also has nice paint job with some red highlights on the mostly black paint job. There is also some of the green acid blood from the Xenomorph staining the spearhead.

For the $18 retail price, you really cannot beat the size of the figure and amount of detail that these Predators have.  I cannot wait to see what figures NECA comes up with next for the Predator line. Series 11 is out now, so if you are a fan of crazy Predator figures, you will not want to miss out on this guy.
