For my first LEGO review here on The Fwoosh, I picked a fun, crazy, and different set from the new LEGO Movie line. Cloud Cuckoo Palace can seem out of place when you first look at it, but you have to understand what the series is about.
We have seen LEGO movies based on DC Comics and Star Wars, but this is the first movie that is focusing on the LEGO world in general. So what does that mean to you and me as LEGO collectors? It means these sets are going to be a blast to play with and are going to be crazy. The movie is not out yet, but we get an idea of what is going on from the trailers. Emmet is somehow supposed to save the LEGO world. So his adventure through the movie will take him to the Wild West, into space, on the sea, in the city, and some kind of “candy land-type” world. This brings us to the Cloud Cuckoo Palace, the capital of rainbows and puppies.
The set comes with three LEGO Mini Figures,as well as two animal-type figures. Mini figures include Emmet (our hero), Wyldstyle, and an evil robot called Executron, who looks like a lawyer crossed with an evil robot. Double scary! 
Both Emmet and Wyldstyle have two faces, while Executron only has one. Emmet comes with a big smile and a scared face. Wyldstyle’s look very similar but one is a smirk and one is her angry face. You will see Emmet popping up a lot in most of the sets, but LEGO has done a good job with giving him a few different faces in the other sets.
Emmet is wearing a bright orange and blue uniform; I believe it is some kind of construction worker outfit. Emmet comes with a red backpack — its the Piece of Resistance. That is the item he finds that makes the builders think Emmet is the special one. He also has a red round brick on the back of one of his legs, which is a tracking device. I love Wyldstyle’s colors! Her black hair and outfit have very bright blue and purple streaked through them. She also has a hood that is down and lies on her shoulders. Executron is wearing a basic black suit and slicked back black hair. He also has silver “robot” hands.
The other two figures in the set are as cute as can be expected from this world. One is a little snail with big eyes. Also, as a bonus, a mini figure can ride on its back for a “quick” get away. Unikitty is a play on my little ponies. But instead of a pony she is a cross between a unicorn and an anime kitty.
The playset is a bright, super-colorful place. It has candy canes, pastel-colored flooring, fluffy white clouds, a bright yellow sun, and, of course, a catapult that launches pretty flower bombs. The only play features in this set are the flower catapult and two spinning discs. The spinning discs seem like a forced “play” feature, but it’s not something you have to use.
I know the bright colors may turn off some people, but for me its part of what makes this series so great. It’s like someone just dumped all their LEGOs in a big box and mixed them up. It’s a theme you will continue to see as I do more reviews of the LEGO Movie sets. Its only $20 and the price is well worth it just for the five amazing figures. I am proud to have this pastel mess of bricks sitting in my collection.
