Marvel Legends – Series 4 (2003)

Beast

Beast is a collector favorite that fits into both the Avengers, X-Men and Defenders. He’s a great character and seeing him in his blue fur is fantastic. the figure is huge! He’s way bigger than his listed six foot frame, and definitely wears the Jim Lee look which the rest of the X-Men in Marvel Legends lean. He’s got a new hip articulation joint that’s supposed to allow for the same posability and keep the sculpt. It’s an ok look. Beast is only missing an ab joint to reach perfection.

Elektra

Elektra is a great character and fits perfectly with Wolverine and the previous Spider-man Classics Daredevil. Now we just need a Bullseye. Elektra sports an amazing sculpt and some serious articulation for a female figure. Unlike Beast who has a traditional t-crotch, Elektra has a V-Crotch. I’d rather they went with the T-Crotch as the articulation would work better.

Gambit

Gambit’s a strong contender for one of the better Marvel Legends to date. One might argue that he’s on the thin side, but many a collector relate to this look. The face sculpt is amazing and is another fantastic piece by sculptor Phil Ramirez. The figure features a ton of articulation and is fun to pose. While he’s not a core character in the Giant Sized era of the X-Men he is a fit for the Jim Lee styling that seems to be dominating Marvel Legends.

The Punisher

Punisher is a great choice with Marvel Legends and fits right alongside Elektra and the previously mentioned Spider-man Classics Daredevil. The figure is loaded with articulation, yes he is missing an ab joint, otherwise he’s perfect. The figure’s look is a bit odd. It’s not a classic Punisher look, it seems to be borrowing from John Romita Jr.’s art, it’s not terrible, and the base figure is solid enough. I was just hoping for a more “classic comic” look.

Goliath

Goliath as a character is a great choice for Marvel Legends, fitting in with the Big 3 Avengers, he’s a no brainer for the team. But the choice of figure leaves something to be desired. Instead of sculpting a new large figure, Toy Biz repainted the previous Giant-Man from the five inch scaled Avengers Box set. And this was impossible to find. This decision left a bitter taste in collector’s mouths.

Ant-Man

Like Goliath this a reissue of an old five inch figure. It’s great that they included him as Ant-Man is a strong character in Avengers’ mythology but it would be great to get a new sculpt for the character.
