This week we take a look at Coraline, in 3D. Coraline is a neglected bored girl in a new home. She finds comfort in another world where everything is perfect, or so it seems…
Much like My Bloody Valentine, only reason I gave this a shot was the 3D feature.
The 3D is pretty good, although I thought it could have been a lot better considering how cool the visuals are already in the movie. Plus one scene at the end gets really good, I wanted the whole movie to look like that.
I just don’t think these new 3d features are being the most creativewith the concept. Just don’t make it 3D, throw things at us out of the screen.
Story wise, it’s good. It’s a dark Alice in Wonderland type film. I’m not sure who the audience for this should be. It’s kind of too light for adults and too dark for Pixar kids. I guess somewhere in between.
Most of the pacing bothered me however. Everything took too long to get going, if this were a faster paced story, it would have been really fun. Instead it moves slowly with lots of fun moments in between.
If this weren’t animated and an actual motion picture with real actors, it’d be extremely creepy, especially the"other" mother.
Mild recommendation if you already watch animated films, I never do. I loved Wall-E, but that was once in a five year thing.
