The NU: SYNTH Initiative is a team up between 1000Toys and several other independent toy makers to make new figures on the Synthetic Human base body. A couple weeks back we looked at the Glyos based Pheyden and today we are going to look at a couple of Knights of Synth!
The Knights of Synth are a result of a collaboration with Toy Pizza and represents a merging of the 1000TOYS synthetic human and Toy Pizza’s Knights of Slice.
The Knights are a sort of pizza-themed super sentai style hero with their glossy, bug-eyed helmets and brightly colored uniforms. The figures come packed in some fairly sturdy blister cards with a nice cross-sell on the back. I’m already feeling the need to get Teal, that’s how suggestable I am. Powerless against a good cross sell, I tell ya.
The three available figures are basically pallet swaps and each figure includes two fists, an open hand, a grip hand, a pizza slicer themed weapon, and two extra heads.
The weapon is pretty fun. It’s clearly based on a pizza cutter, but it has enough sharp lines that it looks like a decent weapon. I love the metallic paint on it too.
The hands swap easily and the grip hand holds the weapon perfectly. The extra heads are nicely detailed in sculpting, though they don’t have any painted detail. They fit on the bodies with a little finagling, though I’m not sure that’s the intent. I couldn’t really find a story behind the inclusion.
The figure is based on the 1000TOYS Synthetic Human, but there are a lot of new parts on the arms and legs that make the figure a lot less robotic looking, but mesh well with the base.
The articulation is one of the highlights of this figure with me and the Knights have:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, hips, wrists, and ankles
- Ball and socket pecs, head, neck, lower torso, mid-torso, and upper torso
- Double hinged knees and elbows
The figure is very well balanced and super-poseable and just a joy to play with.
The paint on both figures is great too. The metallic parts are brilliantly shiny and the boots, gloves, and eyes have a great gloss to them. I absolutely love the lime green on Lime too.
I’ve been collecting a lot of Power Rangers figures lately and these two figures have a similar vibe, but with a lot smoother and more mobile articulation. You do pay for that smoother movement and sharper paint as these are available at more import style prices.
