It’s not often you review a figure of a character that just kicked your butt several times in a row, but I’m in that position now with the Gamestop Exclusive Purge Stormtrooper from Jedi: Fallen Order. Let’s take a look.
The Purge Trooper comes in a standard Black Series box which supplies a little bit of background on these elite troopers along with the usual classy artwork.
The Purge Trooper comes with the two standard Clone Trooper blasters we’ve got several time before. The longer rifle looks familiar to me from the game, though I can’t say I’ve seen the shorter blaster in the game.
There are several Purge Stormtroopers in the game with different melee weapons and since they were prevalent in the demo, I was looking forward to those weapons and these more familiar weapons are a little disappointing. That said, they match the variety of Purge Trooper that uses the rifle in the game, so it looks accurate. I’m hoping that we will get more Purge Stormtroopers like the electrostaff trooper in the future.
The figure looks to be based on the original Black Series Clone Trooper body with a belt modification, a skirt, a pauldron, and a new helmet. The belt has an additional red plastic stripe that hangs below the belt. Based on the artwork, it looks to me like it should go beneath the cloth skirt, but it often overlaps the skirt.
The one puzzling thing to me is that the arms are the original Clone Trooper arms where the double elbows don’t get full range of motion rather than the more mobile arms from Captain Rex. Rex’s arms haven’t been used again since his release and it’s really puzzling to me why the haven’t since they are far superior.
The new helmet has nice sharp detail and thanks to the design, the head articulation moves a little more freely than other Clone Trooper helmets.
The paint is solid on this figure since it’s cast in mostly glossy black plastic, but the symbol decals look sharp. In the game the red visor appears a little brighter than the red on the figure.
Overall this figure is pretty slick. It captures the game look well and looks fantastic with the Second Sister or facing off with Cal. I think my main gripe with this guy would be the availability. I’d love a second one to flank my Second Sister, but it’s not currently widely available in the US.
I got mine because I pre-orderd him with the game which I was going to get anyway. The frustrating thing about this situation is that every Gamestop employee I talk too (we have a lot in San Diego) has a different story about the availability. Their sale paper features this figure, but some stores say they never got any, some say it was only ever going to be available with the game, and one store told me that it came out on Triple Force Friday and sold out that day. I’d appreciate some clarity on this one and I’m hoping the melee weapon Purge Stormtroopers come too.
