We are continuing our look at the six inch scaled Fornite Legendary Series wave two with Leviathan. When I first saw this figure it gave me serious Naut Ke Loi Green Lantern vibes and I was instantly charmed by the humorous take on the classic fishbowl sci-fi space suit. Let’s take a look at Leviathan!
Leviathan comes in a large window box that shows off all the goodies included well. I also like that they have a little checkbox of the rest of the wave included on the back. It’s something toy lines don’t always do that I miss.
The figure comes with a sci-fi looking pickaxe, a heavy assault rifle, a hand cannon, a crystal, a water tank backpack, and a bowl of popcorn.
The pickaxe is neat and has some sharp sculpting and a metallic paint job. It kind of looks like somebody tore the articulated arm from a NASA style rover robot.
I was a little confused about which side would be used for striking, but I think either would work.
The heavy assault rifle looks like a cartoony version of an AK-47 and seems a little oversized in keeping with the game’s style. The trigger finger guard is open and if you squeeze the finger in there, the figure holds the weapon solidly.
The stock is a little thick, but since the hands articulate open, they can hold the weapon fine. I like that there are mutliple colors and metallic paint to finish off the look.
The hand cannon (their term, not mine) looks like the gun than came with the Wildcard figure and also has a open trigger guard that you can wedge the finger in. There isn’t paint detail beyond the handle since it is cast in a metallic plastic, but the sculpting is fairly sharp. I think the finish they used on the Wildcard guns is a little better.
The fish tank backpack has translucent piece to sell the idea that there’s water in the tank. It’s intended to be worn with the black cable pointing down, but it looks good both ways pegged into the hole in the figure’s back. It does look like it’s missing a symbol from the game model.
The crystal is one of the game items and is cast in translucent plastic with slot in the side. You can place the figure’s thumb in the slot so that it can hold the crystal tightly.
The popcorn bowl is apparently based on one of the game emotes and also has a hole in the side like the crystal. By sticking the thumb in the slot and opening the hand hinge wide, the figure holds the bowl securely.
The figure is sculpted well with appropriate proportions and detail that match the character model. The fish bowl head is nicely engineered so that the fish figure appears to be floating thanks to clear plastic post that attaches to the bottom of the bowl. I do wish there weren’t a big seam down the side of the bowl, however.
The articulation is mostly good with:
- Double hinged knees and elbows
- Ball and socket mid-torso
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles
- Fishbowl, bicep, waist, and thigh swivels
- Butterfly hinged pecs
The main joints like shoulders, hips and ankles have ratchets that are fairly tight, but not so tight that I was afraid they were going to snap. I also liked that there seems to be more ratchets than the usual super-articulated figure, so the posing can be a bit more subtle. The head swivels at the gold circular piece at the bottom of the bowl and can be removed from there as well.
The one downside I would say is that the forward movement at the hip is pretty limited. The figure can only kick forward this much:
The ab joint doesn’t have great range either, though the side tilt is a little better than the forward and backward movement.
Paint is solid with an overspray helping to portray the odd green/white color scheme of the jumpsuit from the game. The metallics used on the gold section are nice and shiny too. Overall the paint applications are solid with little slop.
Overall this figure is pretty fun. The design is a funny take on a well-trod sci-fi design trope and the figure captures the design well. I was a little disappointed in the range of motion, but still enjoyed posing and playing with the figure. I may grab a couple more for some customs because I think repainted with a new head it would make for a killer background guy in a Star Wars display.
