Four Horsemen Studios: Mythic Legions Thallyn Frostbow

I’m continuing my look at the recently shipped Mythic Legions: Soul Spiller wave with the Frost Elf Thallyn Frostbow. I went pretty light on the elves in my Mythic Legions: Advent of Decay pre-order, so this ice-themed Elf was particularly appealing to me. Let’s take a look!

Thallyn comes in the usual packaging and includes an alternate head, an axe, a dwarvish looking dagger, a bow, a quiver, one arrow, three wing attachment pieces, removeable shoulder armor, and a weapons holding strap.

The cape is tricky as there doesn’t appear to be a hole for it. I studied pictures of the prototype cape and tried to make the included fur cape hang in the same way by just shoving one end under the right shoulder armor piece.

It doesn’t exactly match, but gets pretty close. I don’t love the way the inside of the cape material looks, but I was able to position it so that underside doesn’t show as much.

The weapons are pretty cool. Since they are from Advent of Decay figures, I’m still at the point where I’m digging seeing them in different colors. I especially like the pearl white axe with ornate silver detailing.

The bow is also really pretty in the pearl white and I love how the figure looks holding it, even though I find setting up these poses and balancing the arrow carefully on the hand somewhat frustrating at times.

I like to clip the quiver onto the hip armor because the long hair and cape make attaching it to the shoulder strap a little fiddly.

The dagger (or short sword) comes from the dwarf weapons pack, but I think it looks great with Frost Elf.

The alternate helmet head is also really cool. I especially like the way the ornate details of the helmet contrasts somewhat with the rough fur cape.

I feel like the accessories give Thallyn a rougher, tougher feel for an elf. The Frost Elves look to be made of sterner stuff.

The figure looks like mostly a re-used of the Myria Goldenbranch or Gwendolynne Heavensbrand body with a frosty blue and pearl whit paint job. As usual with this line, the metallic armor paints are second to none.

At first I though Thallyn re-used Myria’s head, but it appears to be an all new sculpture. It’s nice, but the face seems a little under-detailed or soft compared to most Mythic Legions figures. I wonder if the paint is too thick and washing out the details because my impression of the prototype was different and the detail in the hair is very sharp.

Thallyn has the typical Mythic Legions articulation with:

  • Ball and socket head and mid-torso
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, wrists and ankles
  • Swivel thighs, waist, forearms, and boots

Overall Thallyn is another very good Mythic Legions figure. The Frost Elf is a fun addition to the mix of factions and I love the ice themed paint job. The head seems slightly less detailed than I’m used to with this line, but it still works as an ethereal beauty.
