First Look – Justice League Unlimited Fall 2011 3-Packs

You know, sometime the crux of these First Looks can be all about the timing. As a general rule, we try to serve them up right away but sometimes holding off for a bit is a more appropriate approach. Case in point: what you are reading right now. The duo of JLU two-packs that go up for sale on Matty Collector in September form a near-perfect storm of the embodiment of current sensitive collector topics. JLU has been marching to a close now for some time and it looks like the up-coming 7-pack set will be the plastic train to the big adios, and as sad as it is (looks like I probably won’t be getting that Blue Beetle) it has had one of the best runs in action figure history. So, fans are understandably sad about that. However, other emotional dramas within the plastic DC landscape have been playing out recently (see: the DCUC Subscription) and since Jay Garrick features here and in the Club concept, I thought it best to hold off until at least one part had run its course. Hopefully, we can pick ourselves up and move on to what is to come, but also appreciate and enjoy what is here now. Hey, no matter when it happens, JLU + JSA * Animal Man is always a good thing.

Don’t get me wrong, there were a TON of characters that were actually on the JLU show that I really loved. Green Arrow, Black Canary (especially in Gail Simone-penned episodes), Wildcat, Booster and the New Gods were probably my favorite, but so many characters were handled so well it was hard NOT to like a good many of them. But, I am guy that loves filling out a universe with diversity and, to be completely honest, characters that I personally really like. The JSA are characters that I really like. From the 1940s to today (but oh noes! Not in the AWESOME DCnU!) I love me some Society – much more so than even the League. So, give me Alan Scott and Jay Garrick however I can get them and where ever I can get them. The (for the most part) absence of the classic JSA was one of the few major bones I still have to pick with the JLU show (I know my beloved Ted Kord could NOT be included at the time due to legalities) and while I enjoyed the episode, the Justice Guild never really did it for me. But, as much as I love my shows, I love my action figures more, so getting these guys, even at the end of all things, is most welcome! Check out the pics and remember these two sets (one with Adam Strange, Starman and Animal, the other with Jay, Alan, and Hawkman) go up for grabs on Matty Collector on September 15th.
