Hasbro: A.I.M Scientist and Soldier 2-Pack Review

If you follow my ramblings on Fwoosh at all, you know I love to army build, so it should be no surprise that I was excited by the prospect of an A.I.M. Scientist 2-pack. I didn’t immediately warm to the idea of the A.I.M. soldiers, but the Fwoosh video review convinced me I had to get at least one. Let’s take a closer look at the A.I.M Scientist and Soldier 2-pack!

The figures come in  the standard Marvel Legends 2-pack box with a large front window, a slick illustration on the sides and a nice photo on the back. What’s significant about this 2-pack is how crammed the window looks with stuff!

There is so much stuff packed in there that you can barely see the very nice insert illustration behind the figures. It has a great classic Marvel tech style, so much so that I actually kept it for possible future use.

The figures are basically repaints of the existing A.I.M. scientist and the Sasquatch wave Paladin. The scientist has new black gloves and the windows on his eyes are now black and the bandolier is now brown. I think I prefer these to the original.

The belt also looks to be yellow plastic with black detail which matches the rest of the yellow colors better than the belt does on the original scientist.

I have Paladin and Blade, but I haven’t played with them much, so the soldier here is my first real experience with the figure and I like it quite a bit. The build is a nice medium hero size and the armor feels right for a henchman. Painted yellow, the armor is extremely striking.

The Paladin head really works for me as an A.I.M. henchman. Something about the huge blue glasses feels like some classic Marvel stuff.

Speaking of stuff, this pack comes with a ton of it, including five guns, a knife, two shoulder harnesses (one brown, one grey), a backpack and two extra heads. It’s so much fun mixing and matching the parts across figures as most of it works on either figure.

The biggest question mark accessory for me is the second bee-keeper head for the soldier. I really didn’t think it would work at all with the Paladin body, but I actually like it in tandem with the shoulder harness straps and the backpack. It kind of looks like a heavily armored version of the scientist. Nice thing about the extra head is that you can swap it on to any old A.I.M. scientists you have if you prefer the black eye screens.

The backpack looks to be re-used from Deathlok and it’s my favorite of the accessories. It can go on either figure, but I like it best on the soldier in conjunction with the straps.

All three heads can go on both bodies, and while the Beekeeper is my favorite for the scientist body, I think the Paladin head looks kinda neat there as well. Kind of like a lead scientist.

The weapons are all repaints and they are somewhat comically branded with large A.I.M. logos where possible. I probably could have done without the branding, but these weapons work with the characters. I especially like the smaller rifle below in yellow.

The skull head from Skurge looks really neat repainted in yellow and I’m a little shocked at how much I like it. I like him best with the gun and knife and figure he’s a spec-ops or commando type.

The nice thing about swapping the shoulder harness with the scientist is you can use the bandolier on the soldier. Basically this set is a ton of fun to mess with and configure my A.I.M. army. It really reminds me of the feeling of the old accessory sets you could get for the G.I. Joes or Star Wars figures. I liked the first set so much, I had to grab another! I just wish I had a M.O.D.O.K.! Be sure to check out Robo and Veebs’ video review:

I recommend picking up at least one of these sets.
