I have to tell ya, there is nothing I like more than a company of talented individuals makes it so I don’t have to customize neat dioramas. I mean, I LOVE having interesting backdrops for my displays and pictures, but I don’t have a lot of time to make stuff, and even then, I am probably not that good at it. It is wonderful time we live in when Extreme Sets is delivering exactly what I need.
I have to make an admission: I am in just getting settled into a new house after moving last week. But one of the things the new digs would afford me is more usable space to take pictures with more diverse backdrops and lighting setups. So, the arrival of the new Extreme Sets are perfect, and I am now looking forward to using these more frequently to produce more interesting photo sets. Again, now that I have a new cool alley way for street-level brawls, I don’t have to make an alley myself, and like all of the Extreme Sets offerings, this new one is out-of-the-box ready to go.
If you are familiar with previous releases, you know that ES does a great job of producing interesting dioramas that are well-detailed and create a lot of depth to a photo or display. This is especially true if you are able to play around and experiment with the lighting because you can get some very realistic displays for your digital lens. These pieces have evolved quite a bit since the original wresting displays, and the additions of “floors,” free-standing pieces, and interactive walls (such as opening doors and bars), really put a lot of these sets over the top.
This new Derange Alley offers a bit of all of the recent upgrades, but also keeps the “plug and play simplicity in tact. Hey, I LOVE the more complex sets, and we will be getting to a look at some of those in the next week or two, but there is definitely something about being able to do a quick snap together and produce some fun pictures with new figures. The Marvel Legends SP//DR set arrived right at about the same time as the Alley, and Elektra, Daredevil, and Cloak & Dagger are perfect figures to stalk and battle with this new set.
I like being able to add a lot of perspective to a piece, so being able to actually create an alleyway with chainlink fences along the sides, leading up to a dock door, complete with a dirty street is really fun. The set-up is easy-peasy, but the interesting shapes, colors, and depth the pieces add are all very visually striking. Like most Extreme Sets, everything is modular so there are a LOT of combinations to create and make for new scenes with every shot. The brick posts help a lot, too, so figures can interact with the environment, but they also help add more dimension and framing be it on the shelf of photo table. PLUS, and this is a bit plus, you can mix and match stuff with other sets to up the uniqueness of your diorama.
I really cannot recommend these sets enough, and if you are fan of gritty action at a Marvel Knights or Batman level, this new Deranged Alley will be perfect for you.
