Hasbro: Star Wars Black Series Rey (Island Journey) Video and Quick Pics

Hasbro’s had a lot of time now to tweak on the face printing tech for Marvel Legends, but it’s new for the Star Wars Black Series line. Brand new. Saying that, this isn’t a perfect Rey but right out of the gate it’s up there with some of the import versions.

First off, the face is shiny. That didn’t occur to me until way into the review, where I stopped an gave it a mist of Dullcote. That helped tie everything together. I wasn’t focusing on the glare from the skin but on the eyes, eyebrows, and mouth. So keep that in mind when looking at the pics.

Like I said, it’s not exactly Rey in the face but I feel like the print and the softness kind of beats out the SHF Jedi Training Rey we just got. There, the lines are hard and dark, almost drawn on. But then that’s a bit of a departure from the usual Figuarts faces. So while the SWBS Rey does look a little like Bella from Twilight, I’m putting the quality up there with $60-$70 figures. She may be a little bit more bored looking but I really, really like the execution.

After messing with the figure for a few days though, the next obstacle is joint detents. I understand why we need them, and I’m actually good with them keeping my poses in places, but the position of most of them on recent figures have been annoying. The ankles and knees are not quite in neutral position. You have to kind of fight it for a straight-up vanilla pose. The neck on Rey here juts forward a bit and the detents there are in spots where it emphasizes it even more.

Believe me, we’re good if that’s my biggest gripe here.

It wasn’t pointed out to me until later that the arms are actually incorrect. She should have elbow length gloves/sleeves that seems to have a thumb hole. The figure looks to reuse the TLJ Jedi Training Rey arms, with the bracer on the left and wraps. I didn’t even catch it, so excited about the face printing.
