It’s really hard to convey just how good this Medicom MAFEX The Dark Knight Joker 2.0 is when the pictures themselves try to tell a different story. It’s chaos! Chaos, I tell you!
Seriously, before you scroll down and see the close-ups of the face, just believe me: It looks fantastic in person. Sure, if you get right on it, the pixels jump out at you, but it’s just so Heath Ledgery that it’s hard to see anything else. And everything we usually gripe about when it comes to MAFEX?
None of that. None. Nada. Not a trace.
Besides the face, which is really my only nit, the trench is stiff and hinders the articulation a bit. But the range of movement is superb, the joints are all smooth but tight, the colors great. Medicom even put white make-up on the neck, where it will barely be seen. Some of the hands are a bit tight to pop on, but I didn’t have to heat or drill any of them to get them in place. Even the show change gimmick works as good as any other line could have done.
If this is the way MAFEX is going to be from now on, I’m confident in my pre-orders, which include every Nolan trilogy figure announced. I can’t wait for the police officer Joker that comes with the extra arms and head for this figure to mimic the jail cell clapping scene. Maybe by then they’ll tweak the face printing even more, getting better and better.
And if not, repaint. The sculpt is just too good, I’ll be surprised if we don’t see casts floating around soon. The smiling head here seems a bit ‘toony but that’s okay. The other head nails it.
Remember, macro and face printing is a bad combo.
