I love this figure. This is an action figure. This is a fun action figure. This is an awesome toy. Bandai’s S.H. Figuarts is why I like collecting toys.
It’s not perfect, every toy has faults. Loose joints, bad production, package warp, joints that break, something. But I have yet to find a single fault with this figure. Even the dot matrix face paint, which looks amazing, once you step back like a you would a Seurat, everything comes into focus. The camera is unforgiving up close, but it shows how these faces are painted. And when you step back you see what they are trying to accomplish. I love it. Amazing. Bravo.
The figure is not in scale with Marvel Legends. And before the S.H. Figuarts Defenders pop out, I know it’s not supposed to be. It is in scale with S.H. Figuarts. A point driven home when posed next to Body Kun, confirming that Body Kun is your average sized male for S.H. Figuarts. And so is Tony. But who cares?! With the growing line of Marvel characters in S.H. Figuarts, they’ve become a stand alone line, no need for Marvel Legends.
There are so many good things about this figure and I am certain that I could write about them all night long, but I know you collectors want info. So I’ll be direct. The sculpt is awesome. The figure is a great generic figure in many ways since it’s just a fella in pants and a shirt. Sure a workout shirt, like he’s been to crossfire, but it still works, generically. He’s wearing combat-type shoes. I thought they were black, turns out they are brown. So freaking awesome. Yeah, I could actually spend an article writing about shoes on a action figure.
The articulation is very impressive. The figure can do just about any pose and is one of the more poseable figures we’ve had. Really tons of fun to play with and pose, hand candy, plastic crack for your fingers. The joints are nice and tight. In fact, I had to spray a couple of joints for being too tight. That is awesome *cough* Jango Fett *cough*.
Now. This. Is. How. Figure. Accessories. Should. Be. Wow. Tons. A base, extra hands, Iron Man armor parts. Seriously, the only thing missing was an Iron Man helmet. Well … if you have any of the figures, then you have the heads already. But buyer beware: they don’t fit 100%. The neck barbells on Tony Stark and, for example the Mark 42, aren’t the same length and size. And I’ve found popping heads off isn’t easy. Stark’s barbell wants to stay in the neck, the armor barbell pops out attached to the head. But it doesn’t matter since the Stark head isn’t big enough to fit on the neck. It’s a small complaint, a minor one. It would have been cool to see better compatibility across the armors and Stark, but it is what it is.
Let me take five minutes to write about the base. Coolest thing ever! Totally worth it!
I’m going to stop now. I could go on. Seriously when was the last time you saw me take so many pictures? Just think about how much writing I could do. I love this figure. Bandai, make more: Pepper Potts, James Rhodes, Steve Rogers, etc. etc. etc. Oh, you collector, go get this figure. He’s available here:
