SDCC 2016: Friday Hasbro Updates

SDCC 2016 Hasbro Star Wars Friday HeadlineCheck out some additional pictures from Hasbro’s booth on Friday including more Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black figures.

The Movie Strange and Mordo were added to the booth yesterday, I think, after I had left. This wave is looking to be a buy for me. I like the likeness (heh) on Cumberbatch, but the Chiwetel Ejiofor is even better. It makes me seriously consider making a custom of “The Operative” from Serenity. These are production figures.

Dazzler, Nova and Angela were added to the booth this AM and all three look pretty great to me. Dazzler is dead on with the Farrah hair, disco ball necklace, skates and bell-bottoms. I really like the idea of the rainbow colored “dazzling” power-effect. The rainbow colors are making me think of Karolina Dean from Runaways. It would be cool to get her with this treatment to go with Nico eventually. As ’70s as Dazzler is, Angella looks sooo ’90s. I’m digging the look, though.

The Berenthal Punisher likeness is amazing. I can’t imagine the paints will turn out like this, but I’m so happy to see the Netflix guys starting to get figures. I’m crossing my fingers for a Charlie Cox DD.

I’m a Rebels and Star Wars Black fan, so I was really pleased to see they added the Sabine Protoype to the display yesterday so I could get a closer look. I hadn’t seen this one in person and the paint is amazing. I’m a little surprised it’s still in prototype form, so I wonder when we will see these at retail. Revan looks like…oh, who cares? Not me. The Leia figure is looking like the prototype shown at Toy Fair, so it’s nicer than the rough they showed at Celebration Europe, but I still have problems with the shapeless gown and strong features. It’s nice to see that they are doing a running change on Han’s hair, though.

A big part of Hasbro’s reveals today was the 3.75 inch scale AT-ACT from the upcoming Rogue One. It’s got electronics and a walking function and all sorts of play features. The main Star Wars diorama is three of these monsters approaching a base on a paradise planet. It looks like a fun toy.

The highlight of this show for me, of course, was the Star Wars Black 6 inch reveals, especially Hera. Hera continues to round out the Ghost crew and she’s looking sharp with her Season 1 and 2 costume. She comes with her Blurrg-1120 holdout blaster that goes in an ankle holster. She’s also got a beautiful headsculpt with a lovely smile. The only thing I’m not sure about is that the knee joints seem to be placed a little low on the leg.

The Tusken Raider has some highly detailed texture in those robes and for those who don’t care for soft goods, it looks like he will look good even without the cape. The Royal Guards also use a lot of soft goods, but underneath have the Crimson Empire uniform designs. I love that they went the extra mile to make the uniforms underneath the cloaks interesting and reference that old comic series.

They talked about doing his hair as a second piece or more flexible plastic so that he can have better head movement. I like that they have included a second left hand with a more Jedi Mind Trick look to it. More of this type of thing, please.

Finally! He’s been a top want for a while, so this was so exciting to see. I love the amount of detail they are packing into this figure with the cape lining pattern. It will be interesting to see how much arm movement he’ll have with the cape on. I love that they sculpted his little wrist communicator that he uses to contact Lobot. He comes with a Rebel blaster and that little communicator Lando uses to inform the denizens of Cloud City that the empire has invaded. It’s a neat little scene specific accessory. I would have liked to have seen the blaster he uses in Battlefront and Rebels included, but I understand why they wouldn’t necessarily do that.

Hasbro is really killing it with these reveals. It would have been a perfect show for me if Dengar had won the fan’s choice poll. I really don’t have any attachment to Jaina Solo and I read a lot of those books. To me, the Solo kids were always the absolute weakest, most uninteresting part of the EU. Oh, well, there is too much good coming for me to feel bad about it.
