Don’t you just love it when you have no idea a new wave is hitting, and then you stumble upon it randomly in a store? That’s what happened to me yesterday when I spotted this guy — Hasbro’s new The Force Awakens Black Series Resistance Trooper. So, yes, the week of the movie premier a new Black Series wave is hitting stores. How perfect is that? So in anticipation of the new movie (for those of us who haven’t seen it yet, that is), let’s take a quick look at the Black Series Resistance Trooper! Packaging
Standard Force Awakens Black Series packaging. Nice, simple, black and red.
Figure
There are some nice weathered details, particularly on the helmet. And the jacket looks worn and lived in. Just in terms of a display piece, I think he looks great.
The lower portion of the helmet is on a swivel joint that opens to reveal a handsome mustache.
Accessories
The Resistance Trooper comes with a tough-looking rifle. It’s nicely weathered and looks as though it’s seen its share of combat.
Articulation
His articulation scheme leaves a little bit to be desired. The “skirt” of his jacket hinders his hip movement a great deal, which then renders his double-jointed knees functionally useless. He has no torso articulation to speak of; I can’t even make his waist swivel, though that may be an issue with just my figure. There is no ab joint at all, however. Everything else is pretty standard-issue. So he may be a tricky one to pose if you want more than “vanilla.”
Necessary?
I think he looks great and he fits in seamlessly with the rest of the crew. He seems to be an army builder, so that may make him a tough one to track down since he’s packed one-per-case. I found mine at Target, but I imagine this wave will be popping up everywhere shortly. He comes packed with the TIE Fighter Pilot and repacks of Rey/BB-8, Kylo Ren, Finn, and the Stormtrooper, so he will definitely be the most sought-after figure in the case — be aware of that as you hunt.
A full Fwoosh review of the Resistance Trooper should be coming up shortly!
