We continue our Game of Thrones celebration with another look back at series 2 of Funko’s Game of Thrones Legacy figures featuring Daenerys Targaryen! Daenerys is one the one series 1 character to return in series 2 with a variant. Let’s take a closer look at Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and of the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea.
Daenerys seems like the real breakout character of this series (though Arya and Tyrion give her a run for her money), so I can see why Funko decided to give her a variant look in series 2.
It’s a great costume choice because Daenerys wears it, or something similar, for much of season 3 and 4 of Game of Thrones.
Accessories are not really the high point here as Dany’s only pack-in is the Golden Whip Kraznys gives her which symbolizes her ownership of an army of slaves.
She abandons the whip pretty quickly, but it makes a lot of sense to include it with this version of Dany.
The only thing I would have liked more would be a larger version of Drogon, or perhaps some tinier versions of Viserion and Rhaegal to go with the smaller Drogon from the series 1 Daenerys figure. The whip itself is cast in a very soft plastic.
Sculpt
The sculpt is nice. At first I thought it was the same one as series 2, but I see some differences.
The likeness works from certain angles, but some paint flubs on my figure hurt the overall portrait. The details are nice in the curly, braided hair and the texture of the dress.
Daenerys has the standard Legacy articulation with:
- Swivel/hinged shoulders, elbows, hips, wrists, and ankles
- Ball-and-socket neck and torso
- Swivel thighs
- Double-hinged knees
The articulation all moves well even with the long dress and cape, both of which are cast in a soft plastic.
Paint is okay here with some nice subtle drybrushing on the dress and boots and a wash on the hair to bring out detail.
The eyes are painted well, but my figure’s eyebrow paint doesn’t quite jibe with the eyebrow sculpt and the lipstick is a bit off. I think these mistakes hurt the likeness a bit, which is a shame.
Overall, this is a cool version of Dany to get, but I’d advise caution in picking a paint job you like on the face. I really want a Ser Jorah and a Ser Barristan or maybe Grey Worm to go with this figure and larger versions of her dragons would be keen. I don’t see Funko making another Drogon, so I may customize one. Any ideas for a dragon that matches the Drogon design somewhat?
