Funko Legacy Game of Thrones: Brienne of Tarth

Funko Brienne of Tarth_01We’re celebrating the new season of Game of Thrones with a look back at the Funko Legacy Game of Thrones Series 2 figures. Today’s figure is Brienne, the Maid of Tarth.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_02Brienne’s journey in Season 2 and 3 of HBO’s Game of Thrones was one of the more compelling storylines in a show full of compelling stories, and she had the best fight scene in season 4, so she was also a highly anticipated figure for my dollar.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_03Accessories

Brienne comes with a large sword that’s sharply sculpted and cast in a solid plastic. It’s nothing fancy, but gets the job done and fits well into the scabbard attached to her left hip.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_04Sculpt

The head sculpt is a good likeness, if not perfect like some of the others in this wave. I think the jaw line and chin are actually a little too strong.

The hair sculpt is really nice and looks appropriately unkempt. The armor sculpt is a thing of beauty with sharp detail and a myriad of different textures.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_05The figure is pretty tall, but does feel slightly short next to the Jaime Lannister figure, but I think that’s more of a “Jaime’s a tiny bit too tall” issue than a “Brienne is too short” one.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_14One odd thing that I’m not sure of is that I think the forearms might be assembled wrong on my figure.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_15Looking at show reference, it looks like the taller portion of the blue forearm armor should be facing the outside of the arm, but it’s facing inside on the figure.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_16I may pop them off and switch them with a little heat, but they look fine as is, so I may just leave it.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_17Articulation

Brienne has the familiar Legacy articulation with:

  • A ball-and-socket neck and torso
  • Swivel-hinged shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles
  • Double-hinged knees
  • Swivel thighs

Funko Brienne of Tarth_18The articulation moves pretty well, though the ankle guards limit ankle movement a bit.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_19The elbows get a good 90 degree bend and the long skirt doesn’t impede movement too much. I had no issues loosening up joints with this figure, which is nice.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_20Paint

Paint is really nice on all of the different metallics and leathers on the body, though the face suffers a bit from a thick application of lipstick and eyebrows that don’t really match Brienne’s onscreen eyebrows (they disappear onscreen!) or her makeup-free look.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_21Overall

While not the home run for me that Drogo is, Brienne is a solid triple and a very poseable and fun figure to play with.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_22Just getting the wide variety of knights in this line has been super fun, and Brienne cuts an imposing figure on the shelf.

Funko Brienne of Tarth_23This figure does make me really want a season 4 blue armor for her and a “prisoner” version of Jaime.
