We’re celebrating the return of Game of Thrones this week with some looks at the Funko Legacy Game of Thrones series 2 figures. First up is Khal Drogo!
Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen’s story was my favorite part of Season 1, so I was looking forward to this figure most out of all of the Series 2 figures.
Drogo comes with two knives, his Arakh (long scythe-thingy), and a smaller version of the Arakh. All the weapons are nice and solid and hold their shape well. The knives attach to his person on little loops on his belt.
Sculpt
The sculpt is quite nice with a great likeness of Khal Drago actor Jason Momoa and all the little details in his costume.
Drogo does have a fairly neutral expression, which I usually like in an action figure, but I do think I could have gone for a mid-scream or mid-rant, wild-eyed expression for him too.
Articulation
Articulation is what we have come to expect from this series with the following joints:
- Swivel/Hinge shoulders, hips, elbows, and wrists.
- Ball-and-socket neck and ankles
- Hip swivel
- Double-hinged knees
- Mid-Torso swivel
The articulation is mostly functional right out of the box, but his hip swivels were stuck, so it’s an improvement on series one for sure, but I still would exercise caution with these figures.
Once they are loosened up, however, the plastic has a much more solid feel to it. I noticed that the mid-torso joint doesn’t have the nice ball-joint movement that the other GoT figures have. I’m not sure if that’s a stuck joint or functionality.
The head movement is also a little bit stiffer than I expected. He doesn’t have much up/down movement.
Paint is really nice with good detail work around the eyes and tattoos as well as nice washes and dry-brushes to bring out the texture details in the belt, skirt, and pants.
There is a little imprecision around the beard hair on my Drogo, but it’s otherwise nice.
Overall
Overall, I’m quite pleased with Drogo. He has good range of motion and a great likeness and is fun to play with. It’s a solid figure done in the style I love, so the slight stuck-joint issue is a non-factor in my enjoyment here. I only wish I had some Blood Riders and Ser Jorah to pose with him.
