Top Ten: Black Series Jedi: Fallen Order

Jedi: Fallen Order hit my sweet spot in gaming with a nice combo of hack/slash and exploring/puzzle solving game play and an involving story. We have three very nice figures from the Fallen Order game, but this game is chock full of toyetic designs that would make for great Black Series figures. So much so that I’m skipping the top 5 and going right to ten.

(Caution: There will be Jedi: Fallen Order Spoilers ahead)

I always like to start with a couple runners up and this time the runners up for me seem like the most likely to get figures eventually because they are troopers and would leverage a lot of re-use.

You kill a metric ton of Stormtroopers in Fallen Order, but I like that they added a little variety of trooper into the mix. The Scout Trooper and Scout Trooper Commander have electrobatons for close quarters combat and the Heavy and Rocket Launcher Stormtroopers have heavy ordinance for long distance attacks. Basically all these figures would need is some new weapons and pauldrons to work, so they seem like no-brainer easy win for Hasbro and add some nice trooper variety to my shelf.

The Purge Trooper Commander Black Series was pretty tough to get here in the states, so it would be great if Hasbro could go back and make some of the variants like the Electrohammer, Electrobaton, or Electrostaff Purge Troopers. Hopefully they would come with some translucent purple lightning effect attachments too. That’s it for runners up, let’s move on to the top ten.

10. Greez Dritus

Greez is the pilot of the Stinger Mantis, a ship that serves as your home base throughout the game. He’s a rough and tumble sort, but also a regular guy in that funny Star Wars sort of way where the most outlandish looking alien can often be the most relateable character.

He’s short, got multiple arms, and a bright red jacket and I think he’d look great on the shelf.

9. Nightbrothers

Dathomir is in the game and the game designers took the excellent designs seen in The Clone Wars cartoon and amped them up with realism and a bit of gore.

The Nightbrothers kicked my butt across that planet and almost didn’t make the list out of spite, but the designs are so cool. Basically variations on Darth Maul, these guys weild cool weapons like maces and laser bows and would make great figures that could fit in with your Clone Wars collection too.

8. Haxion Brood Bounty Droid

Greez gets Cal in trouble with the Haxion Brood crime syndicate so periodically during the game you run into Brood hunters. This droid shows up in several different color schemes during the course of the game.

I think part of the appeal for me here is that this droid is based on one of the background droids in Maz’s castle in TFA. I love to see the new droids and aliens from the sequel trilogy appear in other parts of the story.

7. Haxion Brood Bounty Hunter/ Commando

I just dig the cyborg aesthetic of the Haxion Brood Bounty Hunter. The helmet gives me some Shore Trooper and Sidon Ithano vibes and the design just pops cool to me in that Boba Fett kind of way. Doesn’t hurt that he has the jetpack too.

The Haxion Brood Commando also has similarly good design that feels a little like 3A robot designs mixed with Star Wars. I think it would be fun to kitbash a Haxion Brood style figure using black series parts, but if Hasbro wants to do that work for me, I would be grateful.

6. Saw Gerrera

Saw has a guest-starring role in Fallen Order and he is geared up and looking like his appearance from the Rogue One prologue. It’s really fun to see him in action and he zips around on grappling hooks like he’s Batman in the game.

Saw is definitely one of the significant characters missing from Rogue One, and while I’d like his older look, I think younger Saw might be a more fun figure.

5. Cere Junda

Cere is Cal’s mentor on this adventure and her dark past informs much of the story. A former Jedi, Cere has cut herself off from The Force after some traumatic experiences related to Order 66.

Cere’s younger days get fleshed out more as the game progresses, but there is also an interesting comic from Marvel about Padawan Cere that’s worth a look. She’s probably my favorite character in the game, but I find her costume a little dull and a bit too similar to Cassian and Jyn Erso otherwise she’d by higher on the list.

4. Undead Nightsisters

The Nightsister stories in The Clone Wars cartoon are some of my favorite bits of that show. It’s so interesting to me to see how different cultures and religions tap into the force in their own ways. Plus the designs of these goth ninja witch warriors blew me away. in one of the most metal plot lines ever in Star Wars, The Nightsisters raised their deceased sisters from the grave to fight their enemies. It was a real treat to see the photo-realistic zombie Nightsisters in the game and I would love to see this design in figure form.

3. Nightsister Merrin

Everything I said above about the Zombie Nightsisters above applies to Merrin as well. The Sith also wiped out the Nightsisters during the Clone Wars, so I was really happy to see that they had survivors on Dathomir as well.

Merrin’s story parallels Cal’s so nicely and I really enjoyed how they became close over the course of the game. Like the Zombie Nightsisters, Merrin’s game look is a wonderful, realistic translation of the killer Clone Wars Nightsister designs.

2. Jaro Tapal

Jaro is Cal’s Jedi Master during the Clone Wars and I have to say I literally gasped when I first saw him on screen. He’s a LASAT! The same species as Garazeb Orrelios (AKA Matt’s #1 most needed Black Series figure) from Star Wars Rebels.

There is a fun mechanic throughout the game where flashbacks to Cal’s training with Jaro is the way you learn new skills like wall running or double jumping.

One of those flashbacks actually lets you play through Cal and Jaro’s experiences during Order 66. I don’t think I’ve ever been so emotionally affected by a video game ever and it made me a Jaro Tapal fan for life. He’s a big alien Jedi in Clone Wars era armor with a double bladed lightsaber. What’s not to love?

  1. Ninth Sister Inquisitor

The Imperial Inquisitors were originally introduced in the Star Wars roleplaying game as lower-level force using opponents for your roleplaying party to fight. The idea being your level 5 rogue jedi can’t realistically face Darth Vader with any chance to win, so the Inquisitors present a more manageable dark side challenger.

Star Wars Rebels brought that idea into the new canon with The Grand Inquisitor, The Seventh Sister, and the Fifth and Eighth Brothers. The Darth Vader comics Vol.2 introduced the Ninth Sister. The Ninth Sister is a Dowutin, another species introduced in The Force Awakens (Grummgar is a prominent Dowutin alien in Maz’s castle).

The Ninth Sister seems to enjoy her work and has an unusually gregarious personality for a Dark-sider that I find refreshing. I love this alien design and the massive frame would stand out on the shelf and be worthy of a deluxe figure release. Well that’s who I want to see from the game, who do you want?
