No, it’s not the best 1/12 scale Boba Fett, but it’s still pretty awesome!
And I say that knowing full well I’ll get blowback from the MAFEX/SHF, PS/XBOX, TASTEGREAT/LESSFILLING gotta have it one way or another no exceptions either this side of the fence or the other crowd, but it’s okay. It’s all peace and love on my Star Wars shelf.
I pre-ordered the SHF Bubba Feet expecting to not like it much but I had to know with my own hands, plus I have all the Fetts so far, might as well complete the shrine, right? The Figuarts Jango let me down with it’s funky shoulder pads and loosey goosey torso, I figured junior would be as bad. It’s not.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s….cartoony. The undersuit is missing a lot of wrinkle detail and the paint apps are pretty plain. A YouTube comment described it as “Boba if he had appeared in Rebels” and that made me like it even more.
Because moving past the initial feelings about the look, the feel and shelf presence is astounding. It’s solid, it’s flexible, it’s FUN. And if you’ve followed any past reviews, you’ll know the sometimes fun factor will balance out a lot of my gripes. Plus, even if it is too clean, there is a oddly appealing factor to that cleanliness. It’s definitely not accurate, but it’s eye catching for some reason.
But, because of the lack of detail, it doesn’t beat the MAFEX. I know some people have their problems with Medicom but I haven’t had any breakage since Superman and C-3PO. In fact, I’d go as far as to say the MAFEX Fetts (they did an Empire version too) are some of Medicom’s best offerings ever, and will probably never be beat when it comes to Fett. But the SHF comes close enough that if you don’t want to pay aftermarket prices, it’s a perfectly acceptable alternate for the display. Some might say it’s an even better fit for your 6-inch Star Wars collection.
Nothing wrong with that. Just another option when it comes to THE Star Wars bounty hunter.
