Goblin Slayer is the latest release from Max Factory’s figma line. This is a beautiful action from a very touchy novel, manga, anime series. Let’s talk about “touchy”.
Goblin Slayer is about an adventurer named Goblin Slayer is ranked and focuses on killing, goblins. He’s got some bad history with the goblins and is a bit obsessed with killing them. If you’ve followed other fantasy stories you’ll know goblins are vile creatures (that time I got reincarnated as a slime being an exception), in Goblin Slayer they are taken beyond vile into downright hated. They rape, kill and eat humans, their offspring are born from the rapes, and the anime is pretty graphic in the first few episodes showing this. It’s disgusting and uncomfortable to watch, but it sets the scene for the rest of series, there is a constant discomfort that we have to witness another scene, that one of your favorite supporting characters will die or that Goblin Slayer will die. It also makes you cheer, with glee, for Goblin Slayer as he ruthlessly, angrily, hacks his way through hordes of goblins. This is not an anime, story, for kids, it is for adults, and even then I’d caution most people away from it.
figma’s action figure is an amazing rendition of the hero, the sculpt is a screen to plastic translation that figma excels at. The details, the armor, the folds in the clothes, just amazing. And the articulation is, well, figma articulation, they have their joint system and know how to work it into the sculpt The only joint that I’ve heard complaints about it is the left hip joint, the ball or socket might be off shape causing the hip to pop out. I haven’t experienced this yet.
There are a few accessories that come with Goblin Slayer, his buckler shield, a wooden club, and his short sword, hands and base. The hands are limits to fists, open, and holding hands, but the real winners are the shield and sword.
I’m loving this figure, it’s a fantasy armor on it’s own if you are looking to add another adventurer to your collection. He fits with Berserk and other figma lines, but you’ll have a harder fit with Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, he is a bit on the small side.
