It’s a Deadpool action figure, what more incentive do you need?
Unless you’re one of those people sick of the Merc with a Mouth constantly appearing in your movies and comics and games and t-shirts and underoos and lunchboxes and….and…and….
I’m not one of those people. Not by a longshot. I’m one of those guys who will take any and all iterations of Wade from any company willing to super-articulate some plastic into a shape pleasing to my toy-playin’ hands. And that’s not just Deadpool, that’s Wolverine and Boba Fett and Vader and TMNT and Joker. The list goes on. But we’re talking about Deadpool here…
First off, the artist specific look here may turns some people off. It’s based on Gurihiru’s art in Gwenpool, much like the MAFEX Gwenpool, evil Gwenpool, and adult Mile Spider-Man. They have a theme going, at least with the modern looks. MAFEX Spider-Man, Venom, Cyclops, and Wolverine definitely stray 90s. Either way, DP is supposed to look less defined than we’re used to because of the style. Smoother. A bit cartoony. A little flat.
But dang it, I can’t help but like it.
At first it was a little jarring, but I quickly realized that it’s so full of personality. It just has a goofiness to it, while being able to look badass at the same time. And there’s times I swear I see a little Ryan Reynolds peeking through, but that may just be me projecting. I originally didn’t think this figure fit into my 1/12 scale Marvel display consisting mostly of Legends, but the figure wore me down. It will actually take the place of ML version, much like the MAFEX Spidey and Gwenpool before him.
It also helps that the construction is fantastic. There isn’t as much range in the legs as I thought there would be but the joints are tight (maaaaaaaybe a little too tight at the hips) and everything works as it should. I had some paint slop with Gwen but the factory nailed it here, everything is nice and crisp. And I love the belt buckle options along with the alternate heads and hands. One thing stands out at me though.
Where are the guns?
The figure includes two swords. They seem a little short to me but YouTube Land is already schooling me on the error of my ways. The back sheathes are cool although the hilts are fakeys, but that’s nothing we haven’t seen before. No guns seems crazy though. I’ve heard theories ranging from someone’s cracking down on realistic guns with toys to Gurihiru having DP and GP with swords most of the time to Medicom running over budget. Thankfully they did give us perfectly capable trigger finger hands because this toy was made to be holding the heavy artillery. As I was editing pics I realized that I took a lot with accessories that don’t actually come in the package. I’m not sorry. Just look at this.
It’s almost like that “one eye wider than the other” head was made for aiming. Right? Now I need a sheep gun…
