Since I’m going to see Avengers: Endgame tomorrow I thought I’d slap a little S.H. Figuarts love up and cover Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Wasp. It’s a fantastic little figure that released this year and definitely some serious hand candy.
Evangeline Lilly reprises her role as Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, donning the Wasp costume seen at the end of Ant-Man. The Wasp is a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe family and I love that they chose to use Hope, the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne as the successor to the Wasp mantle. Lilly does a great job and the character pops.
Bandai’s the Wasp figure also pops. It’s a beautiful sculpt and has plenty of action figure punch to keep your hands busy for hours. The sculpt does break up around the hips, there’s a mechanical break where the thighs and the hips meet making the thighs flare out like armor. It’s a shame when most of the figure seems to be engineered really well; the most referring o the spinning meat on the biceps. Yes Wasp has a bicep cut right in the middle of the bicep, which, for the life of me, I can’t figure out. Typically S.H. Figuarts have an amazing range of motion in the built in bicep swivel extending from the shoulder ball, and the Wasp is no exception, so the decision seems odd.
The wings are beautifully sculpted and are attached with ball hinges that move smoothly. There was a little squeak with the first movement but they’ve been solid since.
The figure only comes with a masked head, like the Ant-Man figure, sorry no Lilly head this time around. But we might get lucky as Bandai is releasing Ant-Man with Rudd head.
The Wasp comes with some extras, the usual extra hands and, this time around, a base that allows you pose in mid air flying poses. I pretty much threw the base and extra hands in a bag in a storage box. They’re great and all, but my Marvel Cinematic is all vanilla and she looks great standing with the rest of the crew.
I like the Wasp figure, despite the armoury hips and the spinning meat biceps, the sculpt is beautiful and standing next to Ant-Man she pops. I can definitely recommend her.
