Top 5: Most Needed Super 7 Classics Lines

Toy Fair 2019 is now firmly in the past, and all we have left is to wait on all of that toy goodness that will be coming our way in the coming months. A lot of companies made a big splash at TFNY, including Hasbro, NECA, McFarlane, and more of our favorites. However, I just can’t stop thinking about Super 7 and what else they might be able to bring us now that their “Classics” line is branching beyond Masters of the Universe.

If you thought you could get away from me talking about that Toxie figure that Super 7 showed off at their booth, you are wrong. That thing is AWESOME, and I REALLY hope it is super successful and we can see more characters from the old Toxic Crusaders toy line. In addition to him though, we also saw Voltron, Ren & Stimpy, and Conan (up for pre-order now), so Super 7 is making it clear that they are going to expand this scale and style so we can have more properties to interact with our MOTU figures. Plus, that TMNT placard has my mind racing with what those guys are going to look like in this execution.

But that leaves me wondering… what else? What else could we see in this scale and/or style? There are still a lot of untapped nostalgia properties from the 70s, 80s, and 90s that could be very cool in this style. So, of course, I have a list to make. In fact, I could make a list that is much longer than this list, but for the sake of being pointed and concise, I am going to cap my list at five entries. Some of these might seem obvious, but that is okay because to me, that just means that the properties are ripe for an update, and Super 7 just might be the company to give them to us.

Now, one thing before I get started…

I am NOT including THUNDERCATS. Trust me, I want these things more than anyone, but I just cannot put myself through wish listing the continuation of that again. I want it to actually happen, but I am not going to cry and beg again. So, were here is my NON-THUNDERCATS top five.

THUNDARR

My goodness but it has been a LONG time since Thundarr last had plastic life in the form of a great line from Toynami. To this day, not getting that line is one of my biggest collecting regrets, but maybe the time is right again. I mean, with He-Man and Conan already running here, Thundarr is pretty much a no-brainer for the build and style. Plus, can you imagine those three teaming up on your collection shelf? Yeah, it needs to happen.

BRAVESTARR

Yeah, Filmation is going to have a bit of a theme here (apparently double Rs are, too), but to my knowledge, no one has even whiffed at bringing old Marshal Bravestarr back into the spotlight. Again, it would be a dream to have him and his supporting cast stand alongside my MOTU action figures, and I am pretty sure that both properties share a lot of fans. I am not saying that we have to have EVERYONE, but getting Bravestarr, Thirty-Thirty, and Tex Hex would be great in this style.

ADVANCED DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

Yeah, I have ZERO idea how and where this license lives, but could you imagine? Seriously, could you IMAGINE? Warduke? Strongheart? Northlord? Elkhorn? Kelek? Zarak? Oh, geez, I cannot even name them off without getting positively giddy at the thought of modern action figures based off of this old toy line. Heck, I could even go for figures of the old cartoon, too. All I know is I want some rad new D&D figures, so let’s get ‘em.

BLACKSTAR

Whereas Conan was highly influential for the concept of He-Man, Blackstar was the template for the MOTU Filmation cartoon. However, only thinking of it as such sells the property short. The show, while short-lived, was interesting with great characterization, and the vintage action figure line was as colorful and diverse as MOTU in terms of concept. I personally have made modern customs of those old figures (with some help from some very talented people like Alvis Underground and Ibentmyman-thing), so to say I love this property is an understatement. However, I know Blackstar has a lot of fans out there, so let’s get an official update out there.

SILVERHAWKS

I only had a couple of Silverhawks figures as a kid, but maaaaaan, I loved the old toys and the designs in general. The old vac-metal toys really stood out, even in the amazing sea of original concepts happening in 1980s, and Quicksilver’s design is pretty damned iconic in my book. Again, these guys are most certainly due an update, and many talented people have made some pretty rad customs using MOTU Classics figures as bases, so let’s get some official versions out there for the rest of us. Silverhawks rule.

So, those are just five I want to see in the Super 7 “Classics” line. Yeah, okay, Thundercats, too, but I think this list shows some great properties with untapped potential just waiting to be reborn. I have many more, to be sure, but since we have all fo this time between now and SDCC, I am sure I can speculate some more.
