McFarlane Toys: Game of Thrones Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and Night King Review

I was lucky enough to be sent the Game of Thrones Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Night King by McFarlane Toys, and while they aren’t perfect I am downright tickled to have these in the display. Articulation is progressing, excellent quality control, and sculpt and paint is on point. The scale suffers a little though…

It’s hard to pick a point to start here. I really dig each figure individually, it’s only when I put them together that they look a little wonky. Snow should be a tad smaller, Daenerys a lot smaller, and Night King actually a bit bigger. But holy mother of dragons, the sculpt work is amazing.

The paint is beautiful on the bodies and applied nicely on the faces, but I think it’s what messes with the likenesses, especially on Daenerys. Snow fairs betters and Night King gets by because of his odd skintone and non-human features. It draws your attention away from the actual features.

Articulation is adequate. Not “super” but you can hit some poses. I think the days of swivel statues are gone. We were told at Toy Fair that this series was a little late to benefit from McFarlane’s 22POA system (like Fortnite) but later Game of Thrones series will be considered.

I think this is a good start to the line, but the big determining factor will be series 2 and beyond. Character choice and added movement will really put it over the edge for me, but I would almost accept the articulation of wave one if scale was paid more attention. Smaller characters smaller, larger characters larger. Especially when they get to Tyrion and hopefully, Drogo.
