Kotobukiya Hexa Gear Governor Early Governor Vol. 1

Let me wax poetic about toys for a bit.

You see a long time ago I pre-ordered 5 little itty bitty witty model kits with the intention of being completely disappointed. I was so sure that Kotobukiya would, in no way in hell, be able to pull off beautiful sculpted, fully articulated 1/24 scaled model kits, no way, nope, not going to happen. Despite their track record for being one of the top Japanese model kit designers, I had major doubts.

I’m happy to report that I was wrong. Kotobukiya was well within in their element and produced some incredibly sculpted 1/24 scale model kits. These fully articulated soldiers aren’t just well sculpted but they are fully mobile, stuffed with articulation that just a few years ago would have been thought of as impossible to see on a figure of this scale. Not anymore.

Sure, sure, the 1/18 scale has seen some incredible advances in engineering over the past years so it was safe to assume that one day someone would tackle 1/24, but, doubts. No more. Kotobukiya’s Hexa Gear line of model kits is an engineering marvel. These are model kits, you have to remove the parts from a sprue tree, sand off the sprue pegs, assemble and paint. In some cases you might want to glue certain pieces, like the neck peg, but for the most part it is not necessary to glue all parts. The snap together models fit snugly together, in fact pulling the kits apart to fix issues is quite difficult.

The models come with a huge amount of hands, for those of you wanting to make dioramas like you did in your 1/35 military modelling days, will have a ton of fun making scenes with the hands. Additionally there are number of weapons and accessories that you can kit your figures with. Extra body armor, holsters, and knife sheaths. Each kit comes with 5 heads, which is why I bought 5 of these, I wanted to have 5 unique characters.

Military figures are a hot topic item on the Fwoosh forums, those of us that used to collect G.I. Joe figures still want 1/18 or 1/12 scaled soldiers to display and play with. Kotobukiya’s Hexa Gear line certainly fill that need, additionally these are only 2.99 inches tall, meaning that they won’t take up a lot shelf space or storage space. Alternatively if you have the space for huge epic battles, you can deck out Sand color Governors vs Green color Governors.

The Governors will fit with Kotobukiya’s other model kit lines, like Modeling Support Goods and Frame Arms. Or you can just use them in their own universe, there are other unique characters, vehicles, and armored mechs. These figures are so much fun once built that you’ll spend days posing them and having fun with them.
