Hasbro: Marvel Legends Yon-Rogg and Talos

It looks like the Captain Marvel wave hit my area last week sometime. I say sometime, because I wasn’t able to find everybody, finding one or two figures from the wave at every store I visited. I’m glad that I was able to snag a Kree and a Skrull from the MCU, so let’s take a look at Yon-Rogg and Talos!

Both figures come packaged in the standard Marvel Legends boxes featuring some snazzy and colorful artwork of the characters. I haven’t been following the news about Captain Marvel, so the brief bio bits were more interesting to me than these usually are.

It’s pretty exciting to think about seeing the Kree-Skrull war and I found the Supreme Intelligence name drop particularly cool. Seems like we might actually see that giant head in the jar dude on screen.

Yon-Rogg comes with the Kree Sentry torso and Talos has the left leg.

I cannot wait to get the rest of this beast. He’s bursting with classic Kirby style and looks to be a chunky beast. Besides the BAF parts, the only other accessory is Yon-Rogg’s pistol.

The pistol is cast in a plain silver plastic and holds some sharp detail well. I thought Yon-Rogg fired blasts from his hands in the comics, but I can’t recall for sure, though his gauntlets look like they might have blasters in them as well.

It’s always a little tough to judge figures based on a film you haven’t seen yet, though both sculpts look quite nice.

Yon-Rogg has a super-detailed costume with tons of stripes, seams, and designs, typical of a movie version of comic-book costume.

He does have a heavier, more super-heroic build than what I usually associate with a more realistic, movie-based figure. I would say that the likeness doesn’t particularly jump out at me as Jude Law, though it is a very small section of his face visible.

Talos matches the one photo I’ve seen of a Skrull from this film and I especially like the detail on the delicate lines that are etched across the Skrull’s face. The costume also has some interesting swirling details all across the arms and the overcoat.

It appears that the legs and upper body underneath the soft plastic of the removeable overcoat are re-used from Loki.

It’s tough to say how accurate the Loki legs are for the character, but they look fine to me and the overall effect has a nice lanky look that I already associate with Skrulls.

Both figures sport the usual Marvel Legends articulation with:

  • Hinged neck and mid-torso
  • Ball and socket head
  • Swivel/hinged shoulders, hips, wrists, and ankles
  • Swivel thighs, biceps, waist
  • Double hinged knees and shoulders

Yon-Rogg also has a swivel joint at the boot. The articulation is mostly functional, but Talos’ mid-torso hinge doesn’t move much because of the overlay jacket.

The paint is pretty good. Yon-Rogg has a lot of a nice metallic blue on his uniform and plenty of detailed paint hits that are mostly on target. There is a bit on the thigh that didn’t get the metallic blue.

Talos is a little less successful for me. His eyes are a little muddled and the purple paint on his face is a little hit-or-miss.

Overall, these are two very nice figures, though I do wish Yon-Rogg came with an unmasked head. I’m really looking forward to see these interpretations of classic Marvel aliens in action on screen.
