Hasbro: Black Series Hoth Princess Leia

We’re continuing our look at the latest wave of Black Series figures today with another character from The Empire Strikes Back, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth gear. This figure feels fairly familiar since it shares a lot of parts with the recent Target exclusive Bespin Escape Leia, but still has a lot to reccomend it. Let’s take a closer look at Hoth Princess Leia!

Princess Leia comes in the standard pretty box with the pretty art. She also comes with a Rebel Blaster, some goggles and a welding tool. The blaster looks like the same one the Rebel Fleet Trooper came with.

It’s fine, but a little large for her hand and the finger doesn’t hit the trigger when holding it. The more interesting accessories for my taster are the goggles and welding tool. They just look cool.

I definitely like getting more “stuff” with my figures. Gear and weapons that build up the world and can be shared with other figures. Welders, hydro-spanners, goggles, back packs, ammo bags, Quadnocs, macro-binoculars, or whatever. I want it all.

The goggles fit snugly on her face or can be tilted up on her forehead and look great. The welder is tiny, but has nice sharp detail. I do wish she came with her own Exogorth Escape oxygen mask, though.

The sculpt shares a lot of parts with Bespin escape Leia but appears to have new lower legs, left forearm, vest, gloved hands, and hair.

It’s effective and clever re-use of parts for variants and I’m into it.

I had mentioned when I reviewed the Bespin Escape figure how much I liked the sculpt on the puffy cold-weather gear, well that also applies to this figure. I especially like how the puffy vest is sculpted.

They really captured the look and feel of one of those quilted vests perfectly. It’s quite lovely. Speaking of lovely, the head sculpt is a fantastic likeness and is the best Leia figure I’ve seen this side of a Hot Toy.

The articulation is Black Series standard and most of it functions well, however the neck has less movement than Bespin escape Leia because it sits lower on the neck and the hair and collar interact a bit. Leia has:

  • Barbell ball joint in the neck
  • Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and ankles
  • Double hinged knees
  • Swivel thighs
  • Ball and socket mid-torso

The paint is pretty minimal since she’s cast in the right colors and the plastic works pretty well for the skin and the white suit. The only slight complaint I have is that the thigh part of the pants don’t quite match the rest of the jumpsuit because it’s painted white rather than white plastic.

Overall, this is another fantastic figure. I honestly can’t walk by it without my mind replaying the Han Solo and the Princess music from The Empire Strikes Back. Hasbro is just on a great roll with the Black Series lately.

The sculpt is phenomenal and it’s a fun figure to pose with the rest of the Hoth crew we already had. This wave is a really great one for completing teams, huh?
