Ant-Man is the latest S.H. Figuarts release to hit local and international toy shelves. The figure is from the recent Marvel Studios Ant-Man and the Wasp summer blockbuster and the figure lives up to the hype the movie brought.
I had to do some research on this one. I knew that the Civil War Ant-Man suit was a departure from the 1st Ant-Man movie suit but I wasn’t sure where this suit fit in, if it was closer to the Civil War version or the Ant-Man version. Bandai never made an Ant-Man version so I had to do some googling. The reason I was confused is there a lot of this suit that is more like the original suit, specially the mask, which is probably why I’m thrown. The Ant-Man ans wasp suit is more of an update version of the original and is similar to that design. The helmet is also very much like the Ant-Man suit.
Knowing that I was able to relax some and start this review fresh. The Ant-Man and the the Wasp Ant-Man suit is a new design, and the figure is a completely new sculpt. It is engineered almost exactly like the Civil War suit but it is a new sculpt. And a beautiful new sculpt at that. The amount to detail on this figure is stunning, from the cloth folds to the armor texturing tot he helmet details this is a beautiful figure and pops like crazy on the shelf.
As previously stated the engineering is like the previous Civil War version, which means you can pose this shit. The figure has an incredible range of motion and the more “traditional” sculpted inner hip and thigh allowed for some extra leg posing due to the drop down hip. He’s a ton of hand candy funnin.
There ain’t a ton of accessories and I cannot tell you how much that sucks. We really need a S.H. Figuarts Paul Rudd unmasked head like you would not believe. Since Bandai is doing a great job knocking heads out of the park lately, we could really use a Paul Rudd head. 2 Ant-Man figures in and no unmasked head. I’d rather have the head pack in instead of the 2 sets of extra hands.
You want this figure. I know you are thinking, pfft pats, I have the Marvel Legends version and he fits fine with my import movie toys. No, he doesn’t, not really. This Ant-Man is really good and in a year or 2, you’re gonna hate yourself for not picking this one up.
