It’s the season for toy news announcements with Toy Fair starting this Saturday, so of course my mind turns to Black Series figures I want to see announced. We already got a nice chunk of Han Solo movie figure news, but I figure Hasbro might still have some surprises for Star Wars fans this weekend. Here’s my Top 5 most wanted.
Gamorrean Guards
Star Wars Black excels when they deliver on aliens like Bossk and Greedo, so I know they would just absolutely kill a Black Series version of this Classic Return of the Jedi creature. Jabba’s palace aliens in general would be most welcome, but a trio of these guys would be a great next step.
Lando Buddies
Between the films and games, Lando has amassed quite a cadre of kick-ass sidekicks, and I want a box set of them all. The latest, of course, is the Sardonic Duros Shriv Suurgav from Battlefront II.
His cynical one-liners are no match for Lando’s brash confidence, but it makes for a nice repartee between the two in their game level. He’s also got two cool costumes to pick from!
Of course you can’t forget the original Lando sidekick, Lobot, in his ’70s puffy shirt glory. Marvel at his robotic efficiency, slackers! If you are looking for a good Lobot/Lando Tale, I cannot recommend Charles Soule’s Lando comic enough.
I’ve made the case for Nien Nunb many a time, but even Leia recognizes he’s all you need for a good rebellion. C’mon the guy helped to take out Death Star II and Starkiller base. Show some respect. I’d take a ROTJ version or a TFA/TLJ version. They are similar enough that all I’d really want to make him from TFA is the helmet.
Finally, I’d include the latest (though I suppose she could be the first occurring in the story) Lando Sidekick, the Droid L3-37. All I really know about her is I really dig the design, but that’s enough for me and a Star Wars figure for sure.
Zuckuss
I’m a bit of a team builder and with 4-LOM and Dengar on the way, Zuckuss really shouldn’t be too far behind to complete the team of Bounty Hunters Vader sends after the Millennium Falcon. I used a picture of the sideshow figure because that’s exactly what I want, just scaled down to match.
Bodhi Rook
Continuing with the theme of building teams, our Rogue One heroes definitely need their pilot, Bodhi Rook. The guy risked life and limb to deliver news of the Death Star to known maniac Saw Gerrera and kicked off the whole adventure. Again, respect. The Rogue One section of the shelf will never feel complete without him.
Rebel Scum
I’m going to finish my list with the team building love and the hope that I’ll see my beloved Rebels team at least announced for completion before they go off the air in March. I’m not ready guys! I just need Chopper, Ezra, and Zeb. I know you can do it Hasbro. Please!
I’d really love it if Zeb would come with his Bo Rifle that transforms or perhaps two different versions for staff or rifle mode.
Even though I like the short hair look for Ezra more, I think I need Season 1 Ezra with the backpack and painted cadet helmet to go with the crew we already have. Give me that staple gun saber too. Love that thing.
As for Chopper, I’d love it if he had the two side arms and his rocket booster. Basically copy what the Disneyland version has, just scale it up a bit.
I could also really go for an Aurra Sing, Cad Bane, Fives, Echo, Kix, Sidon Ithano, Medical Droid, Hammerhead, Walrus Man, Ursa Wren, Hondo Ohnaka, Saw Gerrera, Edrio Two-Tubes, Weeteef Cyubee, Wicket, Kneesha or tons of others, but that’s my top five. What’s yours?
