Hasbro: Marvel Legends 12-inch Wolverine

Snikt!

Hasbro is continuing to chug along with its line of A-listers in their 12-inch Legends Series, and Wolverine is the next hero to get the royal treatment.  Does everyone’s favorite runt still have what it takes to shine on the toy aisle? Let’s find out!

Packaging

Like past releases, Wolverine comes in a nice-looking window box.  I haven’t been overly thrilled with the design or heavily processed photos, but the metallic shine is eye catching and it does a great job of displaying the figure and keeping it safe.

Sculpt

Just plain awesome. Despite the oversaturation he’s had, I will always have a fondness for Wolverine. He was the guy that got me into superheroes (way back in the ’80s), and the tiger-striped outfit graced the cover of the first comic I ever bought. This sculpt just nails it. Rather than modernizing his look (like the Cap release), they’ve gone the traditional route and given us Wolvie in his spandex uniform. Fortunately for us, they still managed to cram a ton of good things into the sculpt. From the bearded stubble to the textured boots, it was surprising just how much attention Hasbro paid to every detail.  We’re also treated to spectacular head sculpt. Correction — THREE spectacular head sculpts!

Paint

The paint work is simple, clean, and effective. The yellow is bright, but not overly-so, and the wash used is very subtle. What I like most is that they stayed away from making everything look too uniform. This costume only has a few colors in it, but they still managed to give it some variety. I’m also loving the glossy eyes of the masked sculpts. They could have easily slapped some basic white paint on them, but instead, we get something that has some depth to it.

Articulation

This is basically just a giant-sized 6-inch Legends figure — which is not a bad thing at all. Hasbro makes the most playable articulated toys out there, and Wolverine is no exception. Tons of articulation. No loose joints. No fears of anything breaking. I’ve had this guy for a week now and I still can’t put him down. And some extra good news — so many times, shoulder pads tend to get in the way of arm movement, but that’s not the case at all here. The pads are attached by two pins and they can be moved to accommodate the shoulder articulation. You’ll have to adjust them with every new arm pose, but it’s a small price to pay for some great range of motion.

Accessories

Wolverine comes with three heads (Masked, Battle damaged mask, and unmasked), two sets of shoulder pads (damaged and undamaged), removed mask that fits over the neck ball, and two sets of hands (fists, and clawed fists) — all of which are easily swapped out. The head sculpts are some of the best work I think I’ve seen from Hasbro. I can’t find a single thing that I would change. Each has its own distinct personality, but they still all look like the same guy.  My one and only complaint about the accessories are the hands. Rather than two sets of fists, I would have really preferred a set of relaxed hands to compliment the smirking unmasked Logan sculpt.

Overall

Is it too early to pick Best Figure of 2018? Because this might be it. This is, hands down, the best Wolverine figure that I’ve ever owned. For $50, you expect quality, but I was surprised at just how much fun this figure was — especially given that it’s not a scale a typically collect. I really can’t recommend it enough.
