Kaiyodo: Amazing Yamaguchi Magneto Video and Quick Pics

I always look forward to the comments on any Amazing Yamaguchi release. I really believe that this line is one of the most divisive out there. You either love it or hate it. I mean, really love it, or REALLY hate it. And Magneto is going to be no different. In fact, he’ll be worse because of his cape.

Me, I’m torn. I think I like the figure itself more than most of the others. That may stem from the fact that the shoulders are hidden by the cape pieces and the hips aren’t as open as usual. Almost like Kaiyodo went “It’s Magneto, he’s not known for crazy poses, let’s close it up a little there.” That or they used up all the joints in the entity hanging off the back of the figure.

Some people would call it a cape. I call it evil.

Once I get a pose, I’m good. It looks dynamic. It also looks gappy but I can ignore that. I really can. But the process of striking that pose can be a miserable experience. Not because of the body or joints, but because of all the extra weight on the back. This definitely requires a stand. Not just for flight but to actually stand. I have very, very few figures that utilize a stand in the display. There’s no way around it here.

But not only is manipulating the cape into position a chore, putting it together is a bit of a nightmare. The pegs almost seem too big for the holes. It took quite a bit of effort and time to get the pins into place. And before someone types “You want effort, try digging ditches, ya pansy!” remember, I’m trying to convey feelings about a plastic toy here. I get it. My priorities are in line. I don’t need any reminders that there are bigger problems in the world. I’m aware.

To give you an idea of just how fast a Revoltech figure can go from love to hate, I’ll let you in on a secret. Benty was originally supposed to write this review. He got Magneto and couldn’t wait to crack into him, only to run into trouble with pegging the cape in. Or rather, pulling the pin back out to try to alleviate some pressure.

The cape won.

Sometimes you just have to back away from a problem. He’ll fix it and get it together and probably be happy with it. Benty is fairly even keeled and down to enjoy a toy. But in that moment he said screw it, can’t do it. Much like I did with Venom.

Actually, much like I still do with Venom. But I hold a grudge.

To sum it up, I love the look of Magneto. Magneto is a fun figure. Magneto is a blast to pose. But Magneto’s cape can burn in hell. It’s like a terrible action figure giving a sleeper hold to a good action figure, and there’s no tearing it away. Huge grudge, apparently. It drags the overall piece down. I’m waiting for a third party replacement to pop up.
