Bandai: S.H. Figuarts Dr. Strange Video and Quick Pics

Dr. Strange isn’t my favorite MCU movie, and this S.H. Figuarts version of the character isn’t my favorite Tamashii Nations figure. But even with it’s faults I can’t help liking it. Yeah, big surprise there…

I’ll get it out of the way right off the bat and everyone will feel better. The face is weird. It’s pale, it’s shiny, it’s just kind of there. The eyes and other details don’t really stand out. It’s like looking at a wax museum statue of Benedict Cumberbatch. And yes, I realize that this is pretty much the same thing at a smaller scale but Bandai is usually better at this sort of thing. At least they used to be. I haven’t been having much good luck lately. And that’s not even mentioning the slightly different alternate head that is essentially just Strange looking a little more annoyed. Maybe confused.

And then the cape. No. No no no. I know there are a lot of proponents of plastic over cloth out there, but here? No.

But I still can’t help liking the figure. I’ve heard people say the head is large. See: Benedict Cumberbatch. The paint is sloppy in places. Yeah, but the overall scheme looks good. The cape doesn’t sit quite right. It’s a cape. Yes, it’s not perfect, but to me it’s so close to the movie and looks so good with the rest of the figures on my MCU shelf that I can overlook it’s flaws.

Plus it has a little more bang for it’s buck with it’s multiple sets of hands and magic effects. Take that, Black Panther.
