Hasbro: Marvel Legends Walmart Exclusive Black Panther

Action figure exclusives are controversial in the collecting world, to say the least. I’m not usually a fan, but if they were all handled like this Walmart Black Panther exclusive, I would welcome many more exclusives. I was able to order this online and it arrived at my house the very next day at no extra cost. Talk about instant gratification. The figure turned out really nice to boot. This figure is basically a re-release of the Rocket Raccoon Black Panther with a new paint job and some extra accessories. I never got that figure, so I was glad to pick up this plussed-up version.

The sculpt is the now familiar Bucky base body and though it has been reused quite often, I think it works well here for T’Challa and it looks fantastic in all-black plastic.

Black Panther comes with a cape, necklace, spear, and extra set of spear gripping hands. The cape is long and kind of reminds me of the old Priest run on Black Panther. I prefer the original short cape from his first appearance, but this one looks nice and it’s great to be able to create a variety of looks.

The reused Kraven necklace doesn’t match a specific look I remember from comics, though it does call to mind some of the more current decorations on the Black Panther costume and the color variation it adds to the figure is definitely growing on me. I will probably keep my Panther without the necklace or cape, but I’m glad to have the options.

The hands are a little gummy, but I really like having the extra options. I especially like that the right spear hand has up/down hinge rather than in/out. It works better for pointing.

Check out Robo’s review for the articulation:

The paint is pretty simple, with plain black plastic on most of the body, but it works for the character and I like it a lot more than the heavy blue overspray on the original release.

Overall, I’m really glad to have this figure. I feel like it’s a clear improvement over the original release, and if I had that one, I would probably still buy this.

  1. Awesome pics! Still don’t know if I need this figure since I have the older one. I like the looks of this one better, but I could pass on it and not really miss it I think.

  2. Yeah… He looks sleeker without it… Wish they would do something with the waist articulation… It looks odd when you turn his torso…

  3. I think I’m into the non-cape look because it matches his ’70s and ’80s look better. He tended not to wear the cape in those old Avengers books.

  4. Well in the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s Capes were hot… And so were those thigh high boots on men…

  5. Based on modern sensitivities… Those old school super hero capes look super goofy unless you are Batman or Superman…
