Sometimes I fail to pre-order a wave of figures and end up playing the retail hunt game and get my figures way later than my friends and fellow Fwoosh contributors, so I feel like I’m late to the party. I also don’t really feel like I’ve got my money’s worth from a wave unless I set up some photos, so check out some shots of and thoughts about the Warlock wave after the jump!
The BAF from this wave is pretty phenomenal. The detailed sculpt is Sienkiewicz perfection. The only quibble I have is that the tubes don’t stay attached well. Now I want some more New Mutants!
Colossus is a surprise for me. I really hate this costume, but the figure has a great presence and feel to him. I really would love for them to leverage these parts into a Byrne/Cockrum-era Pete.
It’s still hard to believe that they made this version of Dazzler. It’s pretty out there and I couldn’t be happier with it.
I’m not really a big X-Force fan, so Shatterstar is probably my least favorite figure in the wave. It still looks well made.
Sunfire makes me happy. Admittedly, I’m not an expert on Hiro’s costume, but it looks like what I remember to be his classic first appearance costume.
Cyclops is a strange one. I kind of hate the Jim Lee era of X-Men comics and most of the costume designs, but darn if they don’t make cool toys. Couple with the Rogue from the Juggernaut wave and he makes a compelling case for the completion of the Lee era Blue/Gold teams. The only quibble I have is that his straps are loosey/goosey. It’s not a huge deal, I might just glue them where I want.
Polaris is a long-time wanted character, so it’s great to see her, and even if it’s not my particular favorite costume, it’s still clearly Polaris.
Finally, we have Old Man Logan. I haven’t read the book, but this figure is a perfect civilian gear Wolverine. I can totally understand why so many people have popped on young Logan head sculpts on this body. It probably should have come with an alternate head. The sculpt is nice and squat and thick with character appropriate details.
All in all, it’s another fun wave from the Hasbro crew with really only one figure I’m not 100 percent happy about and that’s just because I don’t know the character at all. The figure makes me want to research him, so that’s a good sign.
