ToyBiz: Marvel Legends Series 6 Movie Punisher

Thomas Jane’s 2004 Punisher movie left a lot — a lot — to be desired. It wasn’t great. It had the makings of greatness, but it fell short. Luckily, the Marvel Legends action figure based on Thomas Jane’s Punisher had no shortcomings. It’s a pretty perfect figure, loaded with a great sculpt, great articulation, and tons of accessories.

I love this figure. Like Blade, it is almost the perfect movie figure. It looks like the character from the movie, it looks like the actor, and it sports a great sculpt and articulation scheme.

The sculpt of the figure was a favorite, I personally went on to use this sculpt for various customs as it was a good “generic guy wearing a t-shirt.” Punisher’s upper body is a average-size male sculpt wearing a t-shirt, perfect for making civilian customs or for just about anything you can imagine. The pants were almost as perfect in their generic look except for the ammo pouch on the left hip and the holster straps on the right. Bbut both are features any customizer can get rid of or cover up.

The articulation is just as good as the sculpt. Punisher is loaded with articulation that will allow you to pose him like a mad man. However, after playing with the figure for this review, there are three things to be aware of. The hands, with their articulated fingers, can’t hold a gun. This is not a deal breaker as the hands can be glued, but it is annoying that Punisher can’t hold a gun. The hips are pegged at 45 degrees. This is a great feature for stabilizing loos hips and preventing shelf dives, but it can be challenging to move the legs during posing or play. Finally, the foot is limited in its movement. No one’s solved this issue of limited articulation at the bottom of a pants leg.

There are a ton of accessories with this figure. He comes with a decked-out leather jacket, three guns, a bazooka, and a base. The pleather jacket looks like a reuse of Series 5 Blade’s jacket, just pimped out with a bunch of weapons and ammo. I’m pretty certain that the weapons are also reuse, and some of the parts have not withstood the test of time. The M-60 stabilizers snapped off. Due to the hand’s articulation, I could not get Puniser to hold the bazooka.

Is Punisher needed for your collection? Like Blade, the answer is “yes” — IF you are collecting movie figures. Punisher still holds up with current movie figures and would be a great addition to your collection. You can get him today here:

  1. It’s funny, now that he’s a decade older, Tom Jane looks exactly like the kinda guy I want to play the Punisher. His youtube short doesn’t hurt, either. Fun fact: watch his weapons handling in the movie- he doesn’t blink when he shoots, he keeps both eyes open when sighting, and he uses excellent form and trigger discipline. Whomever did his training for the movie did a great job, and must have been one helluva student.

  2. I bought this guy on the cheap mostly for the weapons & he’s been in the fodder bin ever since. I can’t call it a bad figure per se except for the jacket which has completely disintegrated.

  3. That is exactly what I was going to say. He looks like Fox Mulder ate a mess of babyback ribs.

  4. I appreciate you mentioning why the hips are at 45 degrees. I feel a lot of people don’t understand that design.

  5. There was a knock-off 6th scale version; actually a couple now that I think of it. This was a couple years ago though so I’m not sure how easily they’d be to find these days.

  6. This was my Punisher for a very long time. I loved the look, the guns, the jacket, it had it all. This and the 2 pack face-off where the best….both still haunt my shelves until mezco 1:12 comes out sometime this year.

  7. Thanks for the favorable review! I sculpted this figure. The figures must of course be sculpted far in advance of the film release. The jacket was initially to be used in the movie as it appears on the toy, but it was not used in the final production. The face is a digital laser scan of Thomas Jane.

  8. War Zone is a fantastic movie let down by loony bin Jim.
I rewatched it two nights ago (it was on Sony Movies Channel here in the UK) and its visual style (no more than three colours allowed on screen at anytime) mixed with the insane violence make it such a refreshing Marvel film.
It still has my favourite on-screen Punisher.
I also rewatched this Punisher movie last year and I nearly had to switch it off. Awful awful film. Terribly slow.
