I just got my shipping notice for Mythic Legions Mythic Legions: Covenant of Shadow, Mythic Legions: All-Stars 1.0, and Mythic Legions: Trolls the other day, so it seemed like the perfect time to crack open my last few unopened Mythic Legions 1.0 figures. I got so many of the Mythic Legions 1.0 figures that I decided to take it really slow and only open one or two at a time so I can really appreciate each figure fully. Today we are going to look at Orc Leader Urzokk!
Urzokk is another one of the Mythic Legions figures that immediately jumped out at me with his taciturn head sculpt and weathered armor. I took a look back at some old articles and found one from the 2014 SDCC where I first saw, and drooled over, the prototype and lamented that it wasn’t going to be in my preferred scale. Three years later and I have that figure I coveted so much.
The collector-friendly packaging is always worth noting, especially for the fantastic artwork by Nate Baertsch.
Urzokk is fully armored and that armor has a lot of wicked-looking spikes and jagged edges. The sculpt is so sharp, it can actually hurt to play and pose. He comes with removable shoulder pads, a sword belt, an axe with a removable double blade, a sword, a shield and a second head sculpt.
That’s a lot of good stuff, though the accessories are very familiar after opening a dozen of these figures. The double-bladed axe isn’t my favorite accessory, but I think it looks pretty great with Urzokk’s overall look.
The shield has a pretty cool Orc symbol tampo and some nice weathering.
I have a ton of this sword, but I love it.
The second head sculpt is the same as the first, just without the paint job. I’m really glad they included it because that’s the look I fell in love with back in ’14.
The articulation is so impressive and solid, and every time I play with a Mythic Legions figure I’m surprised at how well it moves with all the bulky armor.
The paint is quite good and it matches really well with the prototype. The armor is drybrushed with a perfect steel-colored paint. I like that they included another wash of rust brown for a grimy effect.
Overall Urzokk turned out fantastic and met the expectations I had from all those years ago. Hopefully they can re-release the Orc army builder so I can add some new soldiers to Urzokk’s army eventually.
