This a re-release of 1000TOYS 1:6 (12-inch) scale action figure. And it is amazing! I’m rarely one to toot the 1/6 scale action figure horn, but with the upcoming release of this figure in 1:12 (6-inch) scale, I wanted to know what I was getting into.
And I love what I am getting into. This is the 3rd re-release of the Synthetic Human and I’ve got no — zero — quality control issues. Everything is glued into place and everything is working. That’s quality to me. 1000TOYS is a small toys company coming out of Japan. I’d call them a “designer toy company” since they don’t have any licenses other than their own in house intellectual properties. They do limited runs, and the 1st and 2nd releases of the Synthetic Human are insane to buy on the aftermarket. I’d heard that the first releases were amazing, both the design and quality, and I was a bit worried about this release since they were taking as many orders as possible inside an extended pre-order window. But I have no complaints, and it makes me super excited about the upcoming 6-inch figure.
The figure is designed to be posed, and it can be! There is a ton of movement within the figure. He can’t quite touch his toes, but he is pretty close to doing that. The legs have an amazing range of motion; it’s the double-hinged knee joints and the ball ankle that allow you to go all-out Spidey with it. The shoulders have a double-hinged ball, allowing for forward to back (shoulder rocker) as well as up and down movement. The shoulder itself also has a disk allowing for up and down movement. Tons of flexibility in the arms. The ab joints are many, you have the chest ball, the ab ball and waist ball, together they make up a multileveled ab joint system that allows for a ton of movement. The articulation makes this a fun figure to pose and play with and if they get all this built into the 1:12 figure, we are in for quite a show.
The head is a ton of fun. The face is a mask that pegs into the skull. When you remove it, there is a “skinless” face underneath and it’s spooky as hell. The eyes are designed to move, like Hot Toys and figma figures, you take tweezers and adjust them. The jaw also opens, and there is some kind of circular something in his mouth, a throat? A voice box? Or maybe a laser cannon of death waiting to take out your Marvel Legends or S.H. Figuarts figures.
Speaking of Marvel Legends and S.H. Figuarts, yes, this figure is huge compared to them, but it is in another scale. Aesthetically the figure fits in with either style, it might not look great with DC Universe Classics due to the aesthetics of that line. But you should find it works well with most lines. It will fit with Hot Toys, or any of your 1:6 action figure collections.
This is another expensive figure to own. It’s worth every cent, but the price tag will turn your average collector away. $150 is a lot of money to drop on one toy. But if you have the cash, I’d recommend picking it up on the aftermarket.
