Four Horsemen Studios: Mythic Legions Gorgo Aetherblade

gorgo-aetherblade_01We continue our look at the Mythic Legions line by Four Horsemen Studios with big bad Gorgo Aetherblade. With a name like Gorgo, you know he has to be bad. Let’s take a look!

gorgo-aetherblade_02Bio

The merciless commander of the Legions of Arethyr, Gorgo Aetherblade is a dark mystery even among his closest confidants. His origin is as cryptic as the identity hidden under his imposing war helmet. What is immeasurably clear are Gorgo’s plans for the hellish army that he has amassed and their sole purpose to usher the return of their master Arethyr.

gorgo-aetherblade_03Mysterious baddie with a dark helm who serves a shadowy master. Sounds a little familiar. This bio works for me because the it fits his dark knight design perfectly.

gorgo-aetherblade_04Gorgo comes with a cape, a sword, two removable shoulder pads, a weapon-holding strap, a battle axe with a piece that allows you to transform it into a double-bladed axe, and a shield.

gorgo-aetherblade_12The shield is pretty nifty, though a reused piece, and it has a neat logo on a field of red.

gorgo-aetherblade_07The sword and axe are pretty familiar at this point, and honestly I can’t bring myself to write about them again. The perils of reuse, I suppose, is a bit of fatigue, and I do feel that with the weapons a little more than the figures.

gorgo-aetherblade_05The helmet sculpt is the same we saw on the Blood Armor, but he has some really great antlers that set him apart. I’m sure that’s not practical at all, but it looks seriously cool.

gorgo-aetherblade_13The cape is also similar to the cape we got with the blood armor. There are a four holes that allow you to hook the cape onto the shoulder pads. This cape material is nice and flexible and it hangs more naturally than soft goods usually do.

gorgo-aetherblade_06The paint is mostly gloss black on the body with some red and gold highlights. These highlights are really well applied for the most part, but I do see some slop when viewing the figure close up through the lens that I don’t see in person.

Gorgo has the following articulation:

  • Swivel Neck, thighs, forearms
  • Ball/socket waist, neck
  • Swivel/hinge shoulder, elbows, hips, ankles, knees, and wrists

gorgo-aetherblade_14The articulation moves really well, especially for such a heavily armored character. I think the wrists have a little less movement than I would have liked. I really wish they had done an independent swivel/hinge in thewrists so you could get up/down and in/out movement.

gorgo-aetherblade_15Gorgo is a fantastic-looking figure and has a great, imposing look. I absolutely love the helm with antlers and the flowing cape, and he looks fantastic leading an army of skeletons.
